KIMIA ANORGANIK 3 Agustina Simorangkir, M.Pd. TERM SIMBOL ATOM
Contoh Soal
When a metal reacts with oxygen, a metal oxide is formed. Metal + Oxygen → Metal oxide Potassium + Oxygen → Potassium Metal oxide Zinc + Oxygen → Zinc oxide Copper + Oxygen → Copper oxide
A chemical reaction in which a substance combines with oxygen is known as an oxidation reaction.
The alkali metals react readily and quickly with oxygen. Some metals, such as iron and copper, react slowly with oxygen. Others, such as silver and gold, are unreactive and do not react with oxygen.
QUESTIONS Which metal burns brighter? (potassium and zinc) Which metal reacts more readily with oxygen? Which metal is the most reactive? (potassium, sodium or lithium)? Heat some metals such as Mg, Cu, Silver. Do they all (metals) react readily and quickly? Are the reactions for more active metals vigorous?
Answers Potassium burns brighter than zinc. Potassium reacts more readily with oxygen than zinc. Potassium is the most reactive. No. Not all metals react readily and quickly with oxygen in the air. The reactions for the more active metals, such as magnesium, are vigorous.
Think About It (TB pg. 133) When the alkali metals are taken out from the oil they are stored in, the quickly turn dull. When the are cut, the cut surfaces appear shiny. Suggest why. Answer: When the alkali metals are taken out from the oil they are stored in, they quickly react with the oxygen in the air to form a layer of oxide, which dulls their appearance. When they are just cut, the cross-sections appear shiny because the have yet to react with the oxygen in the air.
Think About It (TB pg. 134) Use the information in this table to arrange the metals in descending order of reactivity, with the most reactive metal at the top? Answer: Calcium Aluminium Tin Gold
