It was invented by Francis W. Davis in 1926.

It is of the following three types; Hydraulic power steering system or HPS Electric power steering system or EPS Hydro-electric power steering system or EPHS

Power steering has many benefits such as; It reduces driver fatigue. It is quick to respond. It has a greater ability to absorb road shocks. It makes the vehicle much safer to drive. Enhanced operational use of assist systems such as Steer Assist and DISTRONIC PLUS (Mercedes).

Things That Can Result In Power Steering Malfunction

#1- Defective pump (HPS)

The case is unique only for vehicles with hydraulic power steering systems.

A defective pump can make your Mercedes’ power steering system inefficient. Fix the pump…. otherwise things will go south in seconds.

#2- Low or contaminated fluid (HPS)

Hydraulic power steering systems require a special type of fluid to function.

If that fluid gets contaminated, the power steering system won’t function.

Check the fluid from time to time…

#3- Defective electric motor (EPS)

Vehicles with an electric power steering system rely on an electric motor.

If the motor goes bad, your Mercedes’ steering system will start acting up.

#4- Defective control unit (ECU)

It’s the control module that determines how the motor should operate.

If a fault occurs in the module, the motor will not operate as it should. You may need a new module to get the issue repaired.

To Keep It Short…

Power steering enables you to maneuver a vehicle easily and smoothly. So, ensure the upkeep of your Mercedes’ power steering system.
