The Founder William Alexander Smith Lives in Pennyland House, Thurso , Scotland born on October 27, 1854

Advocacy of Youth Development Suddenly the idea came to him that if the Boys met together to do drill during the week, then perhaps they would be better behaved on Sundays.

Outcome 59 boys joined, many out of curiosity but 35 of them stayed. The Boys’ Brigade in Glasgow started on Thursday, 4 October 1883.

The BB Object The object of The Boys’ Brigade shall be THE ADVANCEMENT OF CHRIST’S KINGDOM among boys and girls and the promotion of habits of Obedience , Reverence , Discipline , Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Character .

The BB Object OBEDIENCE - Compliance to an order, request, law or submission to authority.

The BB Object REVERENCE - Deep respect to someone or others.

The BB Object DISCIPLINE - The practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior.

The BB Object SELF-RESPECT - Confidence in oneself; a feeling that one is behaving with honor and dignity.

The BB Object and all that tends towards a true Christian Character .

The Uniform Members, particularly in the younger age ranges, are attracted by wearing a uniform; The emphasis upon appearing in front of other people smartly turned out in uniform makes the member aware that his/her appearance matters; Uniform helps a member to feel a sense of belonging to the Company; It is often true that a person will behave differently in different costumes.
