Perform SIMPLE CALCULATIONS

At the end of the lesson the students will be able to: LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Identify the differences between the Metric System and English System of measurement. Apply the appropriate conversion formulas to solve measurement problems. Demonstrate the values of accuracy, patience, and resourcefulness in performing measurements and conversions.

2 SYSTEM OF MEASUREMENTS Metric System English System

METRIC SYSTEM is decimal system of measures based on a unit of length known as a meter. From the Greek word metron means “measure”. The unit of measurement more commonly used is centimeter.

ENGLISH SYSTEM Is a system of weights and measures based on the foot and pound and second and pint.

The total length: 6o inches. The total length: 150 cm (broken into millimeters). INCHES CENTIMETERS

METRIC SYSTEM = CENTIMETER

ENGLISH SYSTEM =INCH

METRIC ENGLISH Centimeters Meters Kilograms Grams Liters kilometers Inches Feet Pounds Ounces Gallons miles

METRIC CONVERSION CHARTS

METRIC CONVERSION CHART Used in order to have an accurate division of the measurement of body parts and at the same time, in measuring the length and width of the materials. In this process, the fundamentals operations (MDAS) is involved.

Lets Practice! How many inches are there in a 100 centimeters width of fabric? Given: 1 inch = 2.54 Width of fabric = 100 cm Equivalent of an inch to cm = 2.54 Calculation: 100 cm 2.54 cm = 39.37 inches

Lets Practice! How many centimeters are there in a 60 inches length of fabric? Given: 1 inch = 2.54 Length of fabric = 60 inches Equivalent of a cm to an inch = 2.54 Calculation: 60 inches x 2.54cm = 152.4cm

Cost Needed: QUESTION: You need to buy a 60 inches length of fabric to be used in making a dress to your costumer. You have known that the cost of the fabric that you are going to use is P5.00 per centimeter. How much will you need to buy it? Step 1: Convert the 60 inches length of fabric into centimeters. Step 2: Multiply the cost per centimeter to the length of fabric converted.

Lets Practice! Calculation: 60 inches x 2.54cm = 152.4cm You need to buy a 60 inches length of fabric to be used in making a dress to your costumer. You have known that the cost of the fabric that you are going to use is P5.00 per centimeter. How much will you need to buy it? 152.4 cm x Php 5.00 = Php 762.00 Step 1: Convert the 60 inches length of fabric into centimeters. Step 2: Multiply the cost per centimeter to the length of fabric converted.

ACTIVITY: Direction: Read and understand the question: How many inches are there in 6.35 centimeters? 2. How many centimeters are there in 2 inches? 3. The dressmaker needs to buy 100 inches length of fabric that cost Php 15.00 per centimeter. Find the total cost of the fabric.

ASSIGNMENT: In one whole sheet of paper, answer the following: 1. Measure at least 5 household items (e.g., table curtains, clothes). 2. Record the measurements in both metric and English systems. 3. Submit your work with labeled diagrams showing your calculations.
