Mi Ultimo Adios/My last farewell was Rizal’s last and greatest poem written before he was executed, December 29, 1896. This poem is considered as a priceless gem to the Philippine literature.
The poem was given by Rizal to his sister at the eve of his execution. Rizal gave to her sister, Trinidad, the alcohol stove through the guard, and said “there is something inside”.
Her sister discovered inside the stove an untitled poem with 14 stanzas. Trinidad produce the poem and sent it to Rizal’s friend abroad. Later, Mariano Davana a filipino priest, entitled the poem “Mi Ultimo Adios” and published it in La Independencia ( a newspaper of the Philippine Revolution ) of Anthony Luna on September 28,1898.
José Rizal wrote "Mi Último Adiós" (My Last Farewell) as a farewell poem before his execution on December 30, 1896. The poem expresses his love for the Philippines and his willingness to die for his country’s freedom.
