Mineral resources of INDIA

Minerals are natural substances of organic or inorganic origin with definite chemical and physical properties. Based on the chemical and physical properties, minerals are broadly classified as Metallic and non-metallic minerals. Minerals Metallic Minerals Non-metallic Minerals Ferrous minerals Non-ferrous minerals Organic or Energy inorganic minerals Minerals

Different variety of iron ore found in INDIA Haematite: it is reddish in colour and contains 60 to 70 percent pure iron. Magnetite: it is dark brown to blackish in colour and contains 70 percent of iron. Limonite: it is yellow or light brown in colour and contains 35 to 50 percent of iron.

Uses of iron ore About 90 percent of iron ore is use to make steel Powdered iron is used in manufacture of magnets. Black iron oxide is used as pigment in polishing compounds.

The main iron ore deposit in INDIA are :- Chhattisgarh Jharkhand Odisha Karnataka Goa Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu Rajasthan

manganese Manganese is a black, hard and iron-like metal which occurs as natural oxide. It is an important raw material for smelting of iron ore and also used for manufacturing ferro alloys.

Uses of manganese Manganese is used in dry cell batteries. Manganese is used to make steel tough and resistant to rusting. Manganese is used to manufacture black enamel.

Manganese is mined in the following areas: Madhya Pradesh Telangana Goa Jharkhand Karnataka Maharashtra Odisha Rajasthan

copper Copper is an important non-ferrous metal used by man. In nature, copper occurs in the native form and in three principal combinations, that is, sulphides, oxides and carbonates.

Uses of copper It is good conductor of electricity, highly ductile and malleable and is therefore, used for making electric wires. It is alloyed with iron and nickel to make stainless steel, which is used to make utensils and other objects. It is used in building construction for roofing and plumbing

The main areas where copper is found in india are: Madhya Pradesh Rajasthan Maharashtra Andhra Pradesh

Bauxite Bauxite is an oxide of aluminium. It is found mainly in tertiary deposits and is associated with laterite rocks occurring extensively either on the plateau or hill ranges of peninsular India.

Uses of bauxite Bauxite is the main source of aluminium, which is lightweight, strong and rust resistant metal. Aluminium is used in aircrafts, rail wagons, coaches, shipping industry and household appliances. Pure aluminium is the best material for making headlight reflectors and mirrors and in telescope.

The main reserves of bauxite are found in the following states: Goa Odisha Gujarat Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh Jharkhand Maharashtra Karnataka Tamil nadu
