2. Principle:- Biodiesel  a renewable bio-fuel that's made from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled greases and is used in diesel engines.

3. Project Details :- The process of biodiesel production involves the following steps : Feedstock Collection : Gather raw materials such as vegetable oils, animal fats, or used cooking oil. Preprocessing : Clean and filter the feedstock to remove impurities, such as food particles or water. Transesterification : - Reaction : Mix the feedstock with an alcohol ( usually methanol or ethanol) and a catalyst ( usually sodium or potassium hydroxide ). This chemical reaction produces biodiesel (methyl or ethyl esters) and glycerin. - Separation : Allow the mixture to settle, separating the biodiesel from the glycerin. The biodiesel floats on top, while glycerin sinks to the bottom .

4. 4) Purification: -Washing: Wash the biodiesel with water to remove residual catalysts, alcohol , and impurities. - Drying: Dry the washed biodiesel to eliminate any remaining water. 5) Testing : Perform quality tests to ensure the biodiesel meets required standards and specifications. 6) Storage : Store the finished biodiesel in clean, dry containers, ready for use or distribution .

5. Application of Idea/ Its uses :- Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that has many uses, including as a transportation fuel, for heating, cooking, and lighting, and in cleaning products. U sing biodiesel can improve public health and the environment, provides safety benefits, and contributes to a resilient transportation system.

6. Conclusion:- According to FSSAI, India generates around 3 million metric tons of used cooking oil (UCO) every year, and 60% of it is reintroduced into the food chain. This can pose a threat to public health, as much of the waste oil is sold to street vendors and small-town markets instead of being used in the biodiesel industry . Biodiesel is a best alternative fuel for the fossil fuels like diesel and gasoline as it is environment friendly and human friendly.
