“ Monarchy is a form of government where the ruler is a monarch who comes from the royal family.

Absolute Monarchy In this type of monarchial government, the monarch exercises absolute powers. 4
5 I n absolute monarchy , the monarch: w ields executive, legislative, and judicial powers; r ules with an iron hand; and h olds the throne by hereditary right.
6 According to King James I of England 1603-1625 T he throne is a divine right “that kings are not only God’s lieutenants on earth [but they are looked at by God as divine].
7 Absolute monarchies predominated during the middle ages in Europe and were still strong in until 18 th century France, until first decades of 20 th century Russia, and in Greece in the mid-20 th century. Medieval Age to Mid-20 th Century In the light of change within the lives of people, most absolute monarchs lost their thrones and were overthrown by their people through violent revolutions because of their intransigence to cling tenaciously to power. Brunei and Saudi Arabia are modern examples of absolute monarchies who succeeded in enforcing their will upon their subjects.
