What is TRAINING ?
TRAINING is the act of increasing the skills of an employee for doing a particular job. What is TRAINING? - Edwin Flippo -

TRAINING is the process of developing skills, habits, knowledge and attitudes in employees with the purpose of increasing the effectiveness of employees in their present government positions as well as preparing employees for future government positions. What is TRAINING? - William J. Torpey (1953) -
TRAINING is critical in employee onboarding as well as employee retention
TRAINING Technical Personnel – perform highly specialized functions Public Servant Training – public servants with managerial and administrative responsibilities
TRAINING TO: New Employee Excited to learn new all there is to know about the agency/company Existing Member Also needs training to learn and develop skills

Civil Servants Efficient Administration Suitable and Effective Training Programs
THREE MAJOR LEARNING STYLES
VISUAL AUDITORY Learning by seeing or watching Example: - Site Visitation KINAESTHETICS Learning through action or by doing Example: - On-the-job training Learning by listening to and absorbing information Example: - Training Seminar
TYPES OF TRAINING
1. PRE-ENTRY TRAINING Imparted to those who aspire to enter into public services. Training given to new entrants either prior recruitment or during probation prior to first assignment. Focus on subjects relevant to general function of administration
2 . ORIENTATION TRAINING (Induction Training) A training intended to introducing the new employee to the organization
3 . IN-SERVICE TRAINING Imparted after entry into the service at different stages in a public servant’s career Covers both general administration/ management training and functional/ Specialized training
4. POST ENTRY TRAINING Broadening the general ability of the employees
4. POST ENTRY TRAINING Project Related Training Training offered to different categories of personnel in a development project. It includes both technical and managerial training. Self Development Training on a part-time or full-time basis at the initiative of a public servant, but with the formal support of the government, using facilities outside of the government
METHODS OF TRAINING
It is important to get to know what method or type of training is best for EMPLOYEES and tailor the material to them.
1. ON-THE-JOB TRAINING This is the most common method of training in which a trainee is placed on a specific job and taught the skills and knowledge necessary to perform it .
ADVANTAGES OF THE ON-THE-JOB TRAINING It is a flexible method It is a less expensive method The trainee is highly motivated and encouraged to learn. Much arrangement for the training is not required
OFF-THE-JOB TRAINING This is a methods of training which are adopted for the development of employees away from the field of-the-job .
ADVANTAGES OF THE OFF-THE-JOB TRAINING Stress free environment to learn Same as classroom learning Full focus on teaching of employees
TECHNOLOGY-BASED LEARNING Computerized training is becoming more prevalent. It's sometimes referred to as computer-based training (CBT) or e-learning, but it essentially refers to the same thing with one key difference: e-learning is hosted completely online, while computer-based training encompasses any kind of training that takes place on the computer . An important benefit of technology-based learning is that it allows trainees to work through the material at their own pace , and removes the need for an in-person facilitator.
SIMULATORS Simulations are an effective training technique for fields that require a specific set of skills for operating complex machinery , such as in the medical or aviation industries. Successful simulations reflect actual work situations and allow trainees to solve issues that they will likely face on the job.
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING On-the-job or hands-on training jumps straight to the practical skills necessary for the job. New hires begin working immediately with this training method. This will allow new hires to gain a little insight into the context and job requirements before trying it on their own.
COACHING/MENTORING Implementing a mentorship program, along with other training methods, creates employee development opportunities as well as develops relationships that help new employees feel welcomed and supported.
ROLEPLAYING This technique is usually executed with a trainee and a facilitator (or trainer), where each is allowed to act out different potential work scenarios. This method is most effective in industries that require client or customer interaction, as it allows employees to practice handling difficult situations.
FILMS AND VIDEOS Video has quickly gained popularity as an effective training technique. It aids companies in training employees more quickly and efficiently . Many employees prefer it to reading materials. There are several approaches to training videos. Some companies choose one approach depending on the material, while others combine a few approaches into one video seamlessly.
APPROACHES of Films and Videos Animation Live-action To-camera Screen-recorded This style allows complex topics to be explained through visual illustrations. If a topic is difficult to record, animation is probably the best method. Live-action videos are more demonstrative and are great for showing appropriate and inappropriate interactions through role-play scenes. This approach features a narrator who directly addresses the viewer. Typically, the narrator is communicating the information through a more lecture-style format. This method features a recording of things happening on the computer screen. It's perfect for showing employees how to use new digital tools through a step-by-step process. 1 2 3 4
CASE STUDY This training technique is the best training technique that develops analytical and problem-solving skills. Trainees are given scenarios, either real or imagined, that depict common work situations. Either independently or in a group, the employees are then asked to analyze the case and come up with ideal solutions and scenarios.
