Living World How do we decide if something is living or not living?
MRS GREN An individual living thing is an organism. All living organisms have seven life processes in common. We can use the first letter of every word to spell MRS GREN www.website.com
M - Movement Organisms move to find such things as water, food, light and mates.
Respiration Most organisms use oxygen to obtain energy from food. Respiration takes place in the cells of organisms. www.website.com
Sensitivity Organisms can detect changes in their environment and are able to respond to them.
Growth Organisms grow throughout their lives, to increase in size or to replace injured cells. www.website.com
Reproduction Organisms are able to produce offspring
Excretion The ability of an organism to get rid of waste products, e.g. trees lose leaves; animals produce urine and sweat. www.website.com
Nutrition Organisms either produce (plants) or find (animals) food to supply energy and raw materials for growth.
Investigation We can conduct an investigation to find out whether something carries out the seven life processes and so decide if it is living or non-living. www.website.com
