WEEK 1 LESSON 1 INDICATOR : B7.2.1.1.1. Explain the importance of word processing software PERFORMANCE INDICATORS By the end of the lesson, I wil l be able to: 1. Discuss the meaning of word processors. 2. Brainstorm to elicit the importance of word processors 3. Brainstorm to elicit examples of some common word processing software packages (e.g. MS-Word, Corel WordPerfect, AbiWord, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, Notepad, WordPad, etc.) .

WHAT ARE WORD PROCESSORS? Word processors are software applications designed for creating, editing, formatting, and printing documents.

IMPORTANCE OF WORD PROCESSORS Word processors allow users to create, edit, and format documents with ease, providing powerful tools for text manipulation, formatting, and layout. Word processors help users create professional-looking documents with options for font selection, layout design, and graphics integration. Using word processors saves time and effort compared to manual typewriting or handwritten documents. Many word processors offer collaboration features that enable multiple users to work on the same document simultaneously.

IMPORTANCE OF WORD PROCESSORS Digital documents created with word processors can be easily accessed, stored, and shared electronically. Word processors often integrate with other software applications, such as email clients and cloud storage platforms, allowing for smooth transitions between tasks and easy sharing of documents. Word processors support a wide range of document types, including letters, resumes, reports, etc .

TOOLS FOR EDITING MS - WORD Spelling and Grammar Check: Word automatically checks your document for spelling and grammar errors and provides suggestions for corrections. Find and Replace: This tool allows you to search for specific words or phrases in your document and replace them with new text if desired. Cut, Copy, and Paste: These basic editing commands allow you to move and duplicate text within your document. Format Painter: This tool lets you copy formatting from one part of the document and apply it to another. Track Changes: Word allows you to track changes made to a document, including additions, deletions, and formatting modifications. This is useful for reviewing and collaborating on documents.

TOOLS FOR EDITING MS - WORD Comments: You can insert comments into your document to provide feedback or additional information without altering the text itself. Styles and Formatting: Word provides various styles and formatting options to help you customize the appearance of your document, including fonts, colors, headings, and more. Tables and Charts: You can create and edit tables and charts directly within Word to organize and present data. Inserting and Editing Images: Word allows you to insert images into your document and provides basic editing capabilities for images. Headers and Footers: You can add headers and footers to your document for consistent page numbering, headings, and other information that appears at the top or bottom of each page.

HOW TO INSERT SHAPES IN MS-POWERPOINT 1. Open your PowerPoint presentation and go to the slide where you want to insert a shape. 2. Go to the "Insert" tab on the ribbon at the top of the PowerPoint window. 3. Click on the "Shapes" button in the Illustrations group. This will display a dropdown menu of different shapes you can choose from, such as rectangles, circles, arrows, and more. 4. Select the shape you want to use by clicking on it in the dropdown menu. Your cursor will then turn into a crosshair, indicating that you can now draw the shape directly onto your slide. 5. Click and drag your cursor on the slide to create the shape at the desired size. You can hold the Shift key while dragging to maintain the proportions of the shape.

HOW TO FORMAT SHAPES Once a shape is drawn, you can customize it using the options in the "Format" tab that appears when the shape is selected. Here, you can change the shape's fill color, outline color, outline weight, and various other formatting options.

HOW TO EDIT SHAPES To edit the shape you can also right-click on the shape and select "Edit Points" to modify the shape's outline.

COMBINING OR MERGING SHAPES You can also combine shapes by selecting multiple shapes, right-clicking, and choosing "Group" or "Merge Shapes" to create custom shapes.

DRAWING CANVAS What is a drawing canva ? It is a container for organizing and rranging shapes or drawing in a document. It helps you arrange your drawings in a document.
