HISTORY Consist of group of seven island inhabited by koli fishermen The area surrendered to Portugal in 1534 Portuguese called it “ Bom Bahia” meaning “ The Good Bay” Portuguese the city to British in 1661 as part of dowry to King Charles II The city was leased to East India Company for 10 pounds of gold per year The Company made Bombay as their indian headquater in 1687 In 1995 “Bombay” officially become “Mumbai” which derived from the name of Koli goddess “ Mumbadevi ”
