My Text

Syeed sumon

At every moment, new scenes unfold upon this world—an Earth woven from
countless images. A procession of photographs drifts through space, where the
photographer takes part in this endless parade, selecting from the myriad the image
they desire. This act of choosing is also one of omission, as many other images are
quietly set aside..

Photography emerges from the struggle between light and shadow; time is
harnessed, and fragments of space are imprinted onto the camera’s frame.
A photograph holds within it a symphony of visual elements, which together
weave a sentence of meaning. These elements harmonize to give voice to the
image, translating emotions into visual expression. A photographic story is a
tapestry of many such visual narratives. Each viewer reads this tapestry differently,
bringing their own unique interpretation to the imagery.
In the photographic story titled My Text or My Writings, Syeed Sumon has created
images by combining various visual alphabets, and it is these images that he refers
to as his collection of writings, which are, in essence, a collection of visuals.

My Text unfolds in the Space Park or garden, a site where the declaration of
Bangladesh's independence once echoed. Long before that, this very space
witnessed the gallop of horses during the British colonial era. Yet, further back
still, it was a crucible for the Fakir Sannyasi rebellion. The stories woven into this
land seem to linger, suspended in the very air as memories. The present
manifestation of those memories takes shape in Syeed Sumon's photographs, a
visual offering to the garden's historical soul.

n nature’s grand ritual, trees, birds, and humans all participate—each a vital
offering in the ongoing ceremony of life. The images I collect are fragments of this
sacred act. Rootless people, stray dogs, weekend wanderers—all coexist in this
space. And those who come to stroll often find themselves quietly attuned to the
soul of the garden.
Yet the garden itself is but a pretext—a poetic stage chosen for its transient nature.
It serves as a backdrop not for its permanence, but for its impermanence, where the
ephemeral becomes the essence of the visual narrative.

Syeed Sumon's photographic characters and themes drift seamlessly
between the realms of surrealism and magical realism, creating a unique
fusion. The figures within his frames are infused with a dark humor,
occasionally evoking unexpected shadows that imbue the images with a
melancholic essence. In his work, melancholy and hope walk side by side,
intertwined in a delicate dance of light and darkness.
My Text is the text written through Syeed Sumon's camera, a narrative that,
when decoded, continues the process of human existence, one that
sustains the viewer’s journey towards healing. Through the lens of his
camera, this text unfolds, guiding the observer through a path of reflection,
where each image becomes a step in the ongoing process of inner
restoration.
