2. What is NAIP ? National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) is conceived and operationalized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) with funding support raised from the world bank. Its objectives is to facilitate accelerated and sustainable transformation of Indian agriculture so that it can support poverty alleviation and income generation through collaboration development and application of agricultural innovations by the public organisations.

3. Components of NAIP The ICAR as the catalyzing agent for the management of change in the Indian NARS. Research on production to consumption systems (PCS) Research on sustainable rural livelihood security (SRLS) Basic and strategic research in the frontier areas of agricultural science (BSR)

4. Total budget for the NAIP The total budget is US $ 250 million by which: The world bank will fund US $ 200 million as credit and US $50 million by the Government of India.

5. Principles of NAIP To give the agricultural research and technology development systems an explicit development through innovative models. Work with focus, plan and time frames. Funding through competition so that a wide choice of excellent innovative ideas comes. Working in well defined partnership groups with common goals.

6. Why it is important? Agriculture is and will continue to be the main driver of country’s economic growth. Since 1996-97 the growth rate of agricultural GDP has been ,on average of 1.75% per year in contrast with the rate of 4% that is required. The farmers has been facing rising input costs, declining returns from the inputs. To assist the farmers in these changing contrast.

7. Basic research achievement Advances in research and innovation management. Research in Biotechnology. Development of infertility control technology. Innovation ideas introduced.

8. Commercialization of technologies Beyond research partnerships, the project actively engaged private partners in commercialization technologies developed under NAIP. A new systems of technologies and innovations, farmers would be benefitted.
