MIXING COLORS TO GET ANOTHER COLOR EDEC 109 CURRICULUM APPROACHES IN EARLY YEARS

Rationale

Link to EYLF, Practices And Principles: EYLF 4.1 : Children develop a growth mindset and learning dispositions such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity EYLF 5.1 : Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes Principle 1 :  Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships Practice 3 : Play-based learning and intentionality

Resources and Learning Environment White Paper Color Paint Mixing Palette Brushes These are the resources that will be used in this activity, color palette to put all the colors in, then ask the children to choose their colors and mix the colors with brushes and then output the result in the white paper. This activity will take place in outdoor area Risk Management Equipment Safety**: Check for sharp edges or splinters on equipment provided to children. Supervise their use of tools like scissors and regularly inspect them for safety. Allergic Management**: Be aware of any allergy's children may have, especially to materials like paint. Substitute materials as needed to prevent allergic reactions. Hygiene Practices**: Teach and reinforce handwashing with soap and water after activities to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Encourage both children and educators to practice safe exploration learning.

Steps Involved: Step 1: Prepare materials such as paint, blending plate, brushes, paper, smocks, and tissues. Set up by explaining colors to children. Step 2: Discuss colors, prompting open-ended questions to encourage sharing of ideas. Step 3: Demonstrate color mixing and provide materials for hands-on exploration, supporting children's learning as they experiment. Step 4: After the activity, facilitate cleanup and handwashing. Reflect on what they learned and their favorite colors Theories underpinning my Approach: SOCIO-CULTURAL THEORY BY LEV VYGOTSKY- Vygotsky's sociocultural theory emphasizes the role of social interaction and cultural context in cognitive development. He believed that learning is shaped by interactions with others and cultural tools, like language and symbols. Vygotsky introduced the concept of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), which is the gap between what a learner can do independently and what they can achieve with guidance from a more knowledgeable person. He highlighted the importance of scaffolding, where a knowledgeable person provides support to help learners accomplish tasks within their ZPD.

ASPECTS TO CONSIDER WHILE DELIVERING THIS LESSON PLAN ASSESSING- Carefully observing children while mixing colors and ask the name of the secondary color they make.  Encourage children to use different colors and ask them to predict what colors they are creating. And observe how children trying to mix colors and based on the result teach them in adjusting quantities of color to get the perfect shades.  DIFFERENTIATION- use of gestures and visual cues by interacting more and can hand over these children with proficient speaker to encourage language development encourage children to work in collaboration  where each child express their ideas and views with their peers. Offer a variety of painting tools and materials to accommodate different preferences and abilities
