National Science Talent Contest(NSTC) Progress 2001 - 2019 A joint venture of Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences, for grooming in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) 1 1 1 STEM Careers Programme
This Presentation will cover following Points
Introduction
STEM Career Program (SCP) is a joint venture of Higher Education Commission (HEC) & Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (PIEAS) It has two fold Mission To inspire youth of the Nation to opt for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and preparing them for participation in the annual International Olympiad in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. To encourage engineering students to come up with innovative solutions to problems of national interest preferably related to local industry and R & D. National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) strives to address the first part of the mission, and National Engineering Competition (NEC) address the second part of the mission.
NSTC The National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) is a regular annual event since 2003. It is an extension of the National Physics Talent Contest (NPTC), which was initiated by PlEAS in 1995. It strives to vitalize science education at the intermediate level, a crucial stage for professional career choices. NSTC, and earlier NPTC, won national and international recognition for the country by winning silver and bronze medals and honorable mentions. The participants of this Contest are selected and groomed through a rigorous process. National Science Talent Contest About

NSTC Life Cycle Students, who scored an aggregate of 70% or more marks 9 th ,10 th ,O Level , FSc (Part-I) , A Level (Part-I). Nationwide Screening Test conducts in the major cities . Top 50 students are invited for one week fully residential training camp in each of the NSTC subject on the basis of their performance in the Screening Test. The grooming/selection process gradually narrows down this number to 4-6 best students in each of these subjects. Olympiad teams of 4-6 students are selected through a series of subsequent training camps during a year for participation of International Science Olympiads to represent their country. Pakistan is regularly participating in the International Physics Olympiad since 2001, in the Mathematics Olympiad since 2005 and in the Biology and Chemistry Olympiad since 2006. The performances of Pakistani teams in these Olympiads have been quite encouraging.
Home Institutions of NSTC BIOLOGY : National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad CHEMISTRY: H.E.J Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, Karachi . MATHEMATICS : COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore Campus, Lahore. PHYSICS : Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Islamabad.
Steps for Inviting talented Students Publish Advertisement in major National Dailies. Send Posters & Introductory packages to more than 8000 schools/colleges across Pakistan. To contact maximum schools/colleges through social media (Email , Facebook, Twitter). To send Posters to more than 2000 STEM Alumni through emails with request for presentation to their nearest schools/colleges. STEM website, Facebook page and Twitter are being updated regularly . Moreover, top position holders of all BISEs across Pakistan are also invite to attend NSTC training camps without screening test. Progress

NATIONAL ENGINEERING CONTEST(NEC National Engineering Competition (NEC) is being launched on a pilot scale this year under the umbrella of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Careers Programme , a joint venture of PIEAS and HEC. The main idea behind the NEC is to encourage undergraduate engineering students public in as well as private sector engineering institutions to come up with innovative solutions to problems of national interest. STEM Career Programme could provide modest funding not exceeding 10,000 rupees per team to facilitate work on this project. Each team should preferably consist of 3-4 students belonging to different departments that are relevant to the theme of the project. These teams will first compete amongst each other and the winning team from each university shall compete against winning teams from other universities at the national level.
International Science Olympiads NEC DBC NERC DBFC National Engineering Robotics Contest is a joint project of NUST and STEM Careers Programme to promote research in robotics and its related fields in Pakistan.
