NATURE AND INQUIRY OF RESEARCH by: Ma’am Lucille Namoc Lesson 1

Etymology of the Word ‘Research’ Research comes from the middle French word “recherche” which means “the act of searching closely” The word “Research” is a combination of the prefix re which means “again” and the word search , which means “to look for”

UNDERSTANDING RESEARCH Research is a systematic investigation to generate new knowledge or validate existing knowledge. It involves formulating questions, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting findings. it’s main objective is to answer questions and acquire new information, wether to solve problem or to shed light on confusing facts

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH is an objective, systematic empirical investigation of observable phenomena through the use of computational techniques. It highlights numerical analysis of data hoping that the numbers yield unbiased results that can be generalized to some larger population and explain a particular observation. It simply concerned with numbers and its relationship with events.

Characteristics of Quantitative Research Objective Clearly Defined Research Questions Structured Research Instruments Numerical Data Large Sample Sizes Replication Future Outcomes

OBJECTIVE seeks accurate measurement and analysis of target concepts. It is not based on mere intuitions and guesses. Data are gathered before proposing a conclusion or solution to a problem

Clearly Defined Research Questions research questions are well-defined in line with the objectives.

Structured Research Instruments research questions are well-defined in line with the objectives.

Numerical Data data in the forms of: numbers tables charts graphs figures

Replication quantitative studies can be repeated to verify or confirm the correctness of the results in another setting eliminating spurious conclusions

Future Outcomes utilizing online app for complex mathematical calculations

Key Characteristics of Research: Systematic: Follows a structured plan or method.   Objective: Free from personal bias. Empirical: Based on observation and experimentation. Critical: Involves rigorous analysis and evaluation.   Replicable: Can be repeated by others to verify findings

Importance of Research Research is essential for: Advancement of knowledge : Contributing to the understanding of the world. Problem-solving: Developing solutions to real-world challenges. Decision-making : Providing evidence-based information for informed choices. Innovation: Driving new ideas and technologies.
