PRENSENTATION ON DATA ANALYSIS, INTERPRETATION AND IMPLICATION NILESH KUMAR SHARMA M.SC. NURSING FINAL YEAR 2018-2019 1 GOVT. COLLEGE OF NURSING JAIPUR
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM “ A STUDY TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE REGARDING DEPRESSION AND ITS MANAGEMENT AMONG NURSING STAFF WORKING AT PSYCHIATRIC CENTER, JAIPUR WITH A VIEW TO CONDUCT SEMINAR ON DEPRESSION ” 9/20/2019 2
OBJECTIVES OF STUDY To assess the existing knowledge regarding depression and its management among nursing staff working at Psychiatric center , Jaipur . To find out the association of knowledge of nurses with selected demographic variables. To conduct a Seminar on depression and its management at Psychiatric center Jaipur. 9/20/2019 3
HYPOTHESIS H0: There will be no significant association between knowledge of nurses regarding depression and its management and selected demographic variables. H1: There will be a significant association between knowledge of nurses regarding depression and its management and selected demographic variables. 9/20/2019 4
DATA ANALYSIS Data were analyzed with the help of descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive analysis included mean , mean percentage, standard deviation etc. Inferential analysis used to make inference from data regarding association between variables. Chi square test was used to find out association. 9/20/2019 5

MAJOR FINDINGS OF THE STUDY The mean knowledge score obtained by the sample population was ( 17.749 ), with standard deviation ( 5.2057 ). 9/20/2019 25
CONT’D Some socio-demographic variables such as sex, position in hospital, years of experience in psychiatric units and previous sources of information, the calculated chi square value is less than the critical value at p<0.05 level of significance, So null hypothesis is accepted and research hypothesis is rejected. It reveals that there is no impact of socio-demographic variables on knowledge regarding depression and its management among staff nurses. 9/20/2019 26
CONT’D Whereas some socio-demographic variables such as Age, religion, educational status, the calculated chi square value is high than the critical value at p<0.05 level of significance, so null hypothesis is rejected and research hypothesis is accepted. It reveals that there is an impact of socio-demographic variables on knowledge regarding depression and its management among staff nurses. 9/20/2019 27
RECOMMENDATIONS A similar study can be done by taking a larger area for generalization. A similar study can be done among the adolescents and geriatrics. A comparative study of knowledge of depression can be done among rural and urban communities. A similar study can be done among the clients suffering with chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer and HIV. 9/20/2019 28
IMPLICATIONS The implications of this study are discussed under the following headings: Nursing Education Nursing Practice Nursing Administration and Nursing Research 9/20/2019 29
IMPLICATION FOR NURSING EDUCATION Nursing education helps the students with adequate knowledge, skills and attitudes to fulfill their duties and responsibilities in the nursing field. The findings of this study can be used by nurse educators to educate students which help them to update their knowledge on depression. Nurse educators can use the findings of this study to understand the knowledge level of community regarding the causes and early symptoms of depression in community. 9/20/2019 30
IMPLICATION FOR NURSING PRACTICE The findings of the study reveal that there is a need to understand the level of knowledge on depression among the staff nurses while providing community mental health services. In the hospital or community set up, nurses play an important role in providing mental health care. As a part of mental health care, the nurses can teach the causes, early symptoms and preventive measures of depression for the clients . The preventive measures includes healthy living conditions, managing conflicts by self, practicing yoga and relaxation techniques, developing satisfactory inter-personal relationship and enhanced coping strategies. 9/20/2019 31
IMPLICATION FOR NURSING ADMINISTRATION Nursing administrators should create public awareness on causes, and early symptoms of depression and its preventive measures. In the community the nursing administrator should develop a plan to assess the level of knowledge among all nursing personnel. The nursing administrator should develop certain policies for giving awareness of depression in the rural and urban community also. 9/20/2019 32
IMPLICATION FOR NURSING RESEARCH In the field of psychiatric nursing, the nursing researchers should find out the effects of awareness program of depression. The nurses should find out the effects of advanced therapies in treatment of depression. The nurses should find out the magnitude of depression in their respective areas of work. The nursing researchers should carry out studies to prevent the incidence and prevalence of depressive disorders in the community. 9/20/2019 33
