NUCLEAR POLLUTION CHE 110 Presented by: K. Mahesh Varma reg no: 11502805 [email protected]
“ We can’t see it. We can’t smell it. We can’t touch it. The effects may not show up now, in this decade, this generation even in this century. Nevertheless, these senseless nuclear impacts on us are far beyond imagination…”
What is nuclear pollution??? Any undesirable effect caused to the environment due to radioactive substances or radiations is called nuclear pollution.
NUCLEAR FISSION Nuclear fission is the process in which a large nucleus splits into two smaller nuclei with the release of energy. In other words, fission the process in which a nucleus is divided into two or more fragments, and neutrons and energy are released.
CAUSES OF NUCLEAR POLLUTION Uranium mining Production of nuclear fuel Nuclear power reactors Transportation of Nuclear Matters Nuclear Accidents Nuclear tests carried out by the Defense Personnel; and Disposal of nuclear waste.
EFFECTS OF NUCLEAR POLLUTION W eakens the immune system of the body. When the radioactive material is shipped via water then it can also cause toxicity in water and we use the same water for various purposes. Nuclear pollution is another major cause of earth warming. Skin Diseases. Damages the reproductive organs. Destroys the Retina of Eyes. Shortening of life span.
SOME LIVE EXAMPLES OF “NUCLEAR POLLUTION”…

Have you remember the tragedy of
In both the Fukushima and the 1986 Chernobyl accidents, volatile iodine species were released into the environment with tellurium Iodine has highest fission yield, it effects the Thyroid gland. It has been four years since the nuclear power plant accident in Fukushima, Japan.
CONTROL OF NULEAR POLLUTION Proper maintenance of nuclear plants. The disposal of radioactive material must be safe and secure. Ban usage of Nuclear weapons. Safe transportation. Proper storage. Preventive nuclear experiments. Fission reactions need to be minimized. Minimize use of nuclear elements.
