Nutrients are chemical compounds or substance found in food that are used by the body to function properly and maintain health. Examples include:- Carbohydrates Vitamins Proteins Fiber Fats Water Minerals
HOW IMPORTANT IS NUTRITION Good nutrition is the key to good mental and physical health . Eating a balanced diet is an important part of good health for everyone. The kind and amount of food you eat affects the way you feel and how your body works. 1:1 The elder unto the well-beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth . 3 John 1:1-2
So i t is important It is important that everyone consumes these seven nutrients on a daily basis to help them build their bodies and maintain their health.
God’s original source of good nutrients 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed [is] in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, [and] herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed [was] in itself, after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good. 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein [there is] life, [I have given] every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Carbohydrates Foods that energize the body
Main source of energy Carbohydrates are your body's main source of energy : They help fuel your brain, kidneys, heart muscles, and central nervous system. For instance, fiber is a carbohydrate that aids in digestion, helps you feel full, and keeps blood cholesterol levels in check.
Vitamins Vitamins and minerals are considered essential nutrients—because acting in concert, they perform hundreds of roles in the body. They:- Help shore up bones, heal wounds . Bolster your immune system. C onvert food into energy, and repair cellular damage .
Proteins Plays a key role in the creation and maintenance of every cell in our bodies. It fuels our cells and powers our bodies. Protein is made up of amino acids, commonly known as building blocks, because they are attached in long chains. It is also considered a “macronutrient,” meaning that you need relatively large amounts of it to stay healthy.
Why our bodies needs protein 1. Build. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage and skin. In fact, your hair and nails are comprised mostly of protein. 2. Repair. Your body uses it to build and repair tissue. 3. Oxygenate. Red blood cells contain a protein compound that carries oxygen throughout the body. This helps supply your entire body with the nutrients it needs. 4. Digest. About half the dietary protein that you consume each day goes into making enzymes, which aids in digesting food, and making new cells and body chemicals. 5. Regulate. Protein plays an important role in hormone regulation, especially during the transformation and development of cells during puberty. They include: Beans, Green Grams, Ground Nuts, Pumpkin seeds, Broccoli, Soy, Chick Peas….
Fiber Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that the body can’t digest. Though most carbohydrates are broken down into sugar molecules, fiber cannot be broken down into sugar molecules, and instead it passes through the body undigested. Fiber helps regulate the body’s use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check.
Benefits of a high-fiber diet Normalizes bowel movements. Dietary fiber increases the weight and size of your stool and softens it . Helps maintain bowel health. ... Lowers cholesterol levels. ...- Helps control blood sugar levels. ... Aids in achieving healthy weight. ... Helps you live longer.
Benefits of fiber rich diet. Fiber is a colon brush ‘brushes the colon’ 1. It contributes in blood sugar regulation. 2. Needed /aids in digestion i.e it has a unique ability to absorb water so the stools are more easily passed. counteracts constipation and protects against harmful carcinogens-cancer causing chemicals. 3. It enhances a health bacteria flora. 4. It is important in prevention of both cancer and heart/blood vessels diseases. Oat and bean products contain high amounts of water soluble fiber which affectively combats the high cholesterol levels in the blood {LDL}. LDL is the harmful cholesterol which has tendency to build up and clog the arteries by building cholesterol and bile acids, fiber not only reduces the cholesterol levels but also protects against colon cancer since secondary bile acids, which are formed by bacterial conversion of bile acids are carcinogenic. Wheat bran has also proved to decrease the estrogen levels in women, protecting against breast cancer. Examples, fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts.
Fats Healthful high-fat foods are not something to shy away from. The body needs a certain amount of fat from the diet to aid hormone function, memory, and the absorption of specific nutrients.eg Linseeds, Almonds, Avocado, Chia seeds, Coconut, Sesame, Apricots, Cashew Nuts
Healthy or “good” fats Lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. Lower bad LDL cholesterol levels, while increasing good HDL. Prevent abnormal heart rhythms. Lower triglycerides associated with heart disease and fight inflammation. Lower blood pressure. What’s cholesterol ? a fat substance that is used to control leakage of blood from the vessels and arteries.
Why not flesh? All animal products, esp rotten flesh contain high amount of fats The moment an animal looses life i.e. die the body starts decomposing. So whenever meat is eaten ,decomposes in your intestines ,causing horrible IBS thus IBS suppresses the serotonin receptors in your brain causing low mood. They contribute to iron overload ,calcium overload , protein overload ,artery paralysis and increased aging. When excess protein is produced in the blood calcium is drawn to neutralize the acidity leaving the bones bare causing arthritis.
What of pigs? They have been genetically modified to grow over a dozen times faster than normal Which promotes disease ,illness and the growth of excruciating tumors and bodily defects. They feed on human wastes with parasites , worms and sewage waste.
What about chicken? The bodies have been genetically modified to the point that they grow 300* faster than normal. Their bones shatter under the weight of their flesh because it grows so abnormally.
What of sea food or fish? 1.They contain heavy metals Lead , mercury and cadmium have bn found in some sea foods, esp those at the top of the food chain like marlin, shark, sword fish and king mackerel. Environmental pollutants like arsenic from industrial releases, batteries, paints and dyes find their way to the marine life. Excessive and unregulated intake of such fish containing these heavy metals can result in impaired cognitive ,mental and physical health. Also ,mercury poisoning through sea food can also increase the risk of autoimmune diseases in women. Also oil supplements may up risk of heart rhythm disorders if you have high blood lipids. Studies say that the cardiovascular benefits of fish are undone by the presence of these heavy metals in sea food.
VIRAL INFECTIONS 1 cause viral infections They carry infections viruses like norovirus and hepatitis avirus that attacks the liver. Norovirus can cause problems like ,fever, headache, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach ,pain, and body aches and hepatitis that lasts for several weeks and months causing liver failure in older adults.
TOXINS 3.contain organic toxins; Organic contaminants are natural or manmade chemicals such as persistent, bio-accumulative toxins(PBTS):dioxin and dioxin- like compounds. These dioxins accumulate in the fatty tissue of fish and are passed on to us when we consume them. More than 90% of human dioxin exposure is through diet; dairy ,meat and fish products. These chemicals are known for causing immune damage ,hormonal functions and cancers. It can also be transferred from mother to child through placenta and breast milk.
BACTERIAL 4.Can cause bacterial infections. Bacteria belonging to the vibrio, salmonella, shingella clostridium bothlium bacillus cereus species can conterminate sea food. These pathogens cause ahost of gastric health problems like diarrhoea,nausea ,vomiting and abdominal cramps.
PARASITES 5.May contain parasites. Sea food can get contaminated by parasitic pathogens under certain circumstances like faecal pollution of acquatic life and water pollution caused industries ,homes and restaurants. These parasites are; tapeworms and anisakis simplex which cause health hazards like allergic reactions, interstinal perforations, diarrhoea and pain in the abdomen. People with compromised immune systems, defective liver functions , diabetes and elderly are particularly at risk.
How safe is COW MILK? 1. Milk has high or excess of calcium and phosphate salts that inhibit the absorption of iron from the intestines. ( i.e little in iron) thus causing anemia to infants. 2. High fats-which interfere with the urinary excretion of urates (uric acid getting lid off) 3. It causes allergies-it may not cause at infancy stage or childhood but has you age congestion ,hey fever ,asthma middle ear afflictions, headaches, colitis ulcerative. 4. It causes mucus-Dairy products cause formation of mucus in the system. The mucous membranes become coated and forces everything to transpire in every sluggish fashion causing many problems e.g weight gain and running nose, sore throat, sinus problems, coughing up large amounts of phlegm.
Cow Milk can never be digested 5. No enzyme for milk digestion-Rennin and lactose are only in infants up to age 3 in humans. The cow has 300 times more casein than human. The large amount of casein is necessary for the development of cow’s huge bones. Casein coagulates in the stomach and forms large, tough, dense, difficult-to-digest curds that are adapted to the four stomach digestive apparatus of a cow different from human. Once in the human body ,this thick mass of casein puts a big burden on the body’s alimentary system. Casein is the base of strongest glues used in wood-working.
Commercial Milk 6. Great quantity of vitamin D causes loss of magnesium from the heart muscle, which in turn ,causes the heart to flutter. It causes hardening of bones, renal calcification and severe mental retardation in offspring due to high vitamin D intake. Recommended allowance 400 units of vitamin D in excess causes hardening of the arteries, abnormal, deposits in our tissues and joints ,causing arthritis.
Cause of diseases Milk causes other diseases –animal feeds uses antibiotics and hormones that turn up in both meat and milk from these animals to cause health problems in humans who consume.
Poor Cooking a Cause of Disease For want of knowledge and skill in regard to cooking, many a wife and mother daily sets before her family ill-prepared food, which is steadily and surely impairing the digestive organs, and making a poor quality of blood; the result is, frequent attacks of inflammatory disease, and sometimes death. . . . {CD 256.4} We can have a variety of good, wholesome food, cooked in a healthful manner, so that it will be palatable to all. It is of vital importance to know how to cook. Poor cooking produces disease and bad tempers; the system becomes deranged, and heavenly things cannot be discerned. {CD 256.5}
EXAMPLES OF POOR PREPERATION OF FOOD Overcooking Deep frying Direct heat Watery food(soup) Too much spices
OVERCOOKING Hard to digest. It becomes more difficult to digest once it has been cooked above ascertain temperature. Lose nutrients. Generally the longer the food is cooked the more nutrients are lost and hence will not give any mineral or vitamins and the longer it cooks more chemicals reaction can occur.
OVERCOOKING Contains carcinogenic substances. When cooked until charred on the outside certain food can contain dangerous cancer forming properties.(carcinogen) Overcooking starchy foods like rice, potatoes, bread, etc. lead to the reaction of the sugar and amino aid present in the food to react and produce carcinogens like acrylamide(DNA- damage cancer-coursing chemical.
Deep-frying Deep fried foods are prepared at very high temperatures in vegetable oil, which may have trans fats in them to start with.
DEEP FRIED They Have a Lot of Calories. This is because fried foods normally are coated in flour or batter before they’re fried. Also, oil replaces the natural water in the foods as it’s cooked, absorbing the fat and sending the calorie count up.
DEEP FRIED They’re Loaded with Trans Fats Trans fats are formed when unsaturated fats experience hydrogenation. Hydrogenated fats increase stability and shelf life, which is why they’re often found in highly processed foods. Hydrogenation also transpires when oils are heated to high temperatures – like during the frying process. Trans fats are tough for your body to break down and lead to harmful effects on your health, such as an increased risk for heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and some types of cancer. Deep fried foods are prepared at very high temperatures in vegetable oil, which may have trans fats in them to start with. When that oil is heated, it increases the amount of trans fat. It’s a trans fat bomb!
Too much spices Consuming food that is too spicy can cause heartburn, seizures and stomach aches as the intestinal system tries to move the food to the colon as quickly as possible. At the same time, the intestine reacts by absorbing too much fluid which can cause diarrhoea.
Alternative Cooking Methods Deerfield food may taste delicious, but it’s simply not worth it. If you enjoy fried foods, you can easily make them at home without frying them at all. You can do this by using cooled pressed oils e.g. olive oil, coconut oil, groundnut oil and avocado oil Oven-frying – Bake foods at a high temperature to get them crispy without the use of oil. Air-frying – Hot air fryers are very popular and for good reason, since they offer an alternative to deep frying that circulates hot air around foods to make it crispy.
Food preparation The proper cooking of food is a most important accomplishment. Especially where meat is not made a principal article of food is good cooking an essential requirement. Something must be prepared to take the place of meat, and these substitutes for meat must be well prepared, so that meat will not be desired. {CD 256.1}
How long should vegetable be steamed Spinach: 3 minutes. Asparagus, green beans: 3 to 5 minutes. Collard greens, kale, Swiss chard, and other hearty, leafy greens: 5 to 7 minutes. Cauliflower, broccoli: 8 to 10 minutes. Beets, carrots, potatoes, turnips, and other root vegetables: 10 to 15 minutes. Let the vegetable maintain its color
