OPERATING SYSTEM GROUP 1

OPERATING SYSTEM • An operating system is like the manager of a computer. It helps all the different parts of the computer work together, making sure that programs run smoothly and that you can interact with the computer easily.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF OPERATING SYSTEM?

1. Resource Management : • Manages the computer's hardware resources, such as the CPU, memory, storage, and peripherals, ensuring that each application and process has the resources it needs to function .

2. Process Management : • Handles the creation, scheduling, and termination of processes (running programs), enabling multitasking and efficient execution of multiple tasks .

3. Memory Management : • Allocates and tracks memory usage for different processes, managing both physical and virtual memory to optimize performance and prevent conflicts.

4 . File Management : • Organizes and controls access to files and directories on storage devices, providing a structure for saving, retrieving, and managing data .

5. User Interface : • Provides a way for users to interact with the computer, either through a graphical user interface (GUI) with windows, icons, and menus, or through a command-line interface (CLI) .

6. Security and Access Control : • Protects the system from unauthorized access and potential threats, managing user accounts and permissions to safeguard data and system integrity .

7. Device Management : • Manages and controls hardware devices like printers, scanners, and network interfaces, ensuring proper communication between the hardware and software .

8. Networking : • Facilitates network connections and communication between computers, allowing for data sharing and internet access .
