Open Retail Reference Architecture (ORRA) Overview 2021

ORRA Overview Description - ORRA is a community of practitioners that follow OSS principles to enable higher velocity of innovation in the retail industry Overall Goals Document a foundation of retail-centric could and edge APIs that allows multiple vendors, suppliers and practitioners build best-in-class retail experiences   Release a common application deployment platform for edge-native deployments that minimizes required integration testing Determine consistent integration methods for edge and cloud applications   Group a comprehensive set of connectors for retail IoT devices   Objectives Create an open framework where retail suppliers and vendors can work together to deliver unique value to retail merchants Develop solutions that share the following: (a) a common infrastructure, (b) consistent integration methods, ( c) common security practices and (d) a consistent approach to services and support

Retail store topology architecture Key Features Open Source technologies Microservices event-driven architecture Cloud agnostic Highly extensible Data pipelines to transport data Respond to IoT events in real time Key Benefits Ownership of IoT data Scalability at the Edge - deploy as many services as needed Higher levels of automation Faster deployments Cost competitive Co-development support Retail Edge Ecosystem Components (Server / Cluster / Gateway) Installation 🡪 Automated deployment of platform components and devices Configuration 🡪 Ability to configure edge services and merge and combine multiple pipelines ML Ops –> edge analytics applications and inferencing of computer vision feeds

Retail Edge Use Cases Store layout improvement 04 Target: Convenience / Departmental / Discount Stores, Supermarkets Data sources and format: Cameras measuring the traffic of customers in the store analyzing movement and buying patterns Heat map analysis, profit by sqft analysis, convert potential consumers into buyers Inventory Tracking 02 Target: Discount | Convenience (low staffing) | Specialty Data sources and format: RFID tags, AI vision message boards Relevant events are forwarded to backend systems for synching with ordering systems Loss Prevention 01 Target: Convenience Stores, Supermarkets, Discount Stores Data sources and format: Cameras, scales, scanners, self-checkout Data mainly comes from POS transactions and scans with ability to flag the need for human intervention in the process Occupancy 03 Target: All Data sources and format: various actuators to detect human presence, compliance/safety systems Segmentation by time, area, etc. Shopping cart security, motion-sensors, security cameras, Bluetooth locators
