CASE STUDY OF Pakistan National Council Of Arts
A key element in establishing Islamabad’s identity as the capital of Pakistan, the National Art Gallery is the first part of a large cultural complex.
It includes 13 galleries, a 450- seat auditorium, restoration facilities, a library and a cafe.
A large central courtyard brings light into the heart of the building and establishes a circular route through the galleries, with level changes allowing objects to be seen from different viewpoints.
Although monumental in stature, the gallery eschews the white marble of such grand neighbors as the National Assembly in favor of understated brick with corbelling and arches that recall Mughal architecture.
