Permissive Parenting
•Permissive Parents allow their children
to do their own thing, no discipline
•Little respect for order and routine
•Parents make few demands on children
•Rarely punish
•Non controlling, non-demanding
•Children are always demanding

Authoritarian Parenting
•Authoritarian parents are less
responsive to their children’s needs
•They generally punisha child rather
than discuss the problem
•Such parents expect much of their
child

Authoritative Parenting
•Democratic or balance parenting
•It has a give and take nature
•It encourage children to be
independent but still places limits
on their actions
•The parent will explain his or her
motive for their penalty

Positive Parenting
Positive parenting create a nurturing
environment in your home
•Appreciate the value of play: it is a child’s work
•Talk with and listen to your child
•Build your child’s brain and body
•Be your child’s first source of information
•Know your uniqueness of your child
•Put a Smile on Your Face
•Keep an Open Mind

Discipline should be:
FRIENDLY
FAIR
FIRM

Firm:
Consequences should be
clearly stated and then
adhered to when the
inappropriate behavior
occurs.

Fair:
Harsh punishment is not
necessary.
Using a simple Timeout can
be effective when it is used
consistently every time the
behavior occurs.

Friendly:
Use a friendly
but firm communication
style when letting a children
Work at “catching them
being good” and praise
them for appropriate
behavior.
