1. History Of Paralympics The Paralympics, the premier international competition for athletes with disabilities, began in 1948 with Dr. Ludwig Guttman’s efforts in the UK. He organized a sports event for World War II veterans with spinal cord injuries at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital . This event laid the foundation for the modern paralympic movement . First Official Paralympics held in Rome in 1960 .
