➢It is also known as fundamental Particle
➢The elementary particle have been classified on the
basis of four properties –Mass, Lifetime, Interaction,
Spin.
Classification of Elementary Particle
On the basis of mass -
1.Massless bosons :
✓Zero charge
✓Zero rest mass
✓Zero or integral spin
✓Stable
✓Travel with speed of
light.
Hadrons–Hadrons are those particle
which do participate in Strong
interaction.

Hyperons
Nucleons
On the basis of interaction :
✓Leptons –Leptons are those
particle which do participate
in weak interaction
✓Masses are smaller than ∏ -
Mesons
✓Types –Electron , Muon,Tau
,Electron neutrino, Muon
neutrino,Taunutrino,.
➢Mesons means middle mass particle.
➢All the mesons have integral spin.
➢They are also called bosons.
➢Masses are between those of leptons &
baryons.
➢Types –Pion, Kaon and eta particles.

➢Baryon means heavy Weight.
➢The rest mass equal to greater than
the mass of protons.
➢They are also called as fermions.
➢All the baryons have half integral
spin.
➢Types –Lembda, Sigma, Xi, omega.
On the basis of spin:
