Parts of the Eyes

THE EYES The eyes allow us to see, perceive, and interpret the world around us through the detection of light and color.

EXTERNAL PARTS OF THE EYE Eyebrows Eyelid Eyelashes Eyeball Tearduct

EYELASHES They protect the eyeballs from foreign bodies, like sand and dirt that may enter the eyes. Eyelashes

EYEbrows They protect the eyes from sweat that comes from your forehead. Eyebrows

Eyelids It protect your eyes when they are already tired. It also protect your eyes from glare. Eyelids

Eyelids It also protect your eyes from dust or any foreign objects that may enter the eyes. Eyelids

eyeball Holds the sensitive parts of the eye, like the pupil, iris, sclera, and the cornea.

pupil The black circular opening in the middle of the eye that allows the light to enter.

IRIS The iris is the colored part in front of the eye. It helps screen and control the amount of light that enters the eye. Iris

SCLERA The sclera is the white part of the eye.

LENS The lens is a clear part that receives the light that enters the eye. It then bounces off this light to the back of the eye. Lens

Taking Good Care of the Eyes

Eat food that are rich in Vitamin A.

Have your eyes checked annually for protective care.

While watching TV, do so from a distance of about 10 feet. Every 20 minutes, try to rest your eyes.

Rest every now and then when you are using the computer, or when you are reading a book continuously.

Avoid reading very small print, and read in clean light. Avoid dim lights for reading.

It is better to read in sitting position than when you are lying down.

Do not touch your eyes with dirty fingers.

Do not rub your eyes when they become itchy.

Avoid using another person’s soap, towel, or handkerchief when you wash your face.

Handle or use sharp objects very carefully.

Avoid playing rough games to protect your eyes from being poked or hit.

See a doctor at once when you experience eye problems.
