3. Everything in the world is made of atoms. Atoms of the same type are called elements. The periodic table is a way of organizing all the elements. The periodic table arranges elements by increasing atomic number (the number of protons in an atom of the element). Similar elements are found close together in the periodic table. WHAT IS THE PERIODIC TABLE?

4. Elements are represented by a one or two letter symbol. The first letter is always a capital and the second is always lowercase. This is derived from Latin, so it’s not always what you would expect e.g. Cu is copper, because the Latin for copper is cuprum. CHEMICAL SYMBOLS
