Definitio n of Peshi पेशि मांस खंडः। ( डल्ह्नण ) मांसावयवसङ्घातः परस्परं विभक्तः ‘ पेशी’ इत्युच्यते । ( डल्ह्नण ) The Mamsa dhatu which is fleshy piece known as peshi, the Mamsa dhatu forms in compact and fibres arrangement side by side and separated with each other is called as peshi. The peshi are long and have fleshy appearance.
Structure of Peshi तासांबहलपेलवस्थूलाणुपृथुवृत्तह्रस्वदीर्घस्थिरमृदुश्लक्ष्णकर्कशभावाः सन्ध्यस्थिसिरास्नायुप्रच्छादका यथाप्रदेशं स्वभावत एव भवन्ति || ४० || Peshi are of many different shapes enumerated below. बहल –Large पेलव - small स्थूला – thick अणु -minute पृथु –expanded वृत्त -rounded ह्रस्व –short दीर्घ -long स्थिर –hard मृदु -soft श्लक्ष्ण –smooth कर्कश - rough The muscles cover the bones, joints, ligaments, and the organs. They also line the middle and inner layer of the organs. The blood vessels and nerve fibres are innervated within the muscles. The muscles help in the movements of the bones and the organs. So the muscles are named according to their location in the body.
Formation of Peshi यथार्थमूष्मणा युक्तो वायुः स्रोतांसि दारयेत् || २८ || अनुप्रविश्य पिशितं पेशीर्विभजते तथा | su . Sha.4/ 28 During the organogenesis the Vayu Mahabhuta along with the Usama Guna forms the Srotas and when they enter in the Mamsa dhatu they devided this Mamsa and forms peshi.
Functions of Peshi मांसं शरिरपुष्टीम् मेदसहः च । सु . सू . १५ सिरास्नाय्वस्थिपर्वाणि सन्धयश्च शरीरिणाम् | पेशीभिः संवृतान्यत्र बलवन्ति भवन्त्यतः || ३८ || Mamsa dhatu build up the body physique and it gives nourishments to the Meda dhatu. It facilitates all the actions of the body and maintain them movements of the joints. The Shira, Snayu, Asthi and the sandhi are covered and strengthened by the Mamsa dhatu. By observing the similarities of these properties the Mamsa dhatu may be considered as the muscle tissue which help in the movements of the body. The Mamsa dhara kala can be considered by the intermuscular septa .
