What are phones? Phones are the smallest distinguishable unit of speech sounds. They are refers to any speech sound or gesture without regard of it place in phonology of language.
The different between Phones , Phonemes and Allophones. Phones are refers the smallest distinguishable units of human speech sounds, and they are represented in [] e.g. [p] Phones are universal, why universal? Phonemes are refers to the smallest distinct and constrictive units of linguistics that bring about the different of meaning, and they are represented in // e.g. /p/. Allophones these are the variation of phonemes, so they are refers to the possible spoken sound used to pronounce a single phoneme e.g.[p’] in” pin "and [p] in “soup”
