About This Presentation

Hi i'am Sean , i study in OUR OWN ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL .This is a power point on plastics , to help us understand what is a plastic , what are the types of plastic and what harm do they cause to our environment

PLASTICS

What is plastic ? A plastic material is usually a semi-synthetic solid. Monomers of plastics are either natural or synthetic organic compounds

In Plastics, the arrangement of the individual units may be linear or cross linked Linear or lightly cross-linked polymers form a class of plastics called thermoplastics Heavy cross-linking plastics are called thermosetting plastics

Thermoplastic THERMOPLASTIC IS A POLYMER That turns into a liquid when heated and freezes into a very Glassy state when cooled Sufficiently.

Thermo set materials are usually liquid or malleable prior to curing and designed to be molded in their final form Thermo-setting plastics

Plastics are poor conductors of heat and electricity , are insoluble In water, inflammable and do not corrode and rust plastics can be heated or molded into any shape and size to make a variety of things Facts about plastics

Advantages Of Plastic Plastics are light weight, chemically resistant, can easily be shaped, durable, easy to colour, thermally insulating, acoustically insulating, electrically insulating, energy saving.

The fact that plastic was able to withstand heat also lead to its being recognized as an important material in aerospace technology. Today, plastics are used in the solid fuel boosters form rockets and in the ablative shields for reentry of space shuttles.

Disadvantages Of Plastic It is an indestructible compound, even when it is melted the compound gas that is gives off is very harmful to our heath and environment and weakens the ozone layer. Most plastic is made from oil when The world is gradually running out of oil.

“Every year, Americans throw away about 100 billion plastic bags It’s equivalent to dumping nearly 12 million barrels of oil.”

Pacific Ocean a.k.a Plastic ocean All the plastic waste products have been accumulated in the pacific ocean causing lots of danger to the marine life

The solution ? With more than 50 billion tons of waste plastic which won’t go for a thousand years and recycling proving to be an extremely expensive and difficult procedure, is there a solution ?

A more likely solution, perhaps, is good old-fashioned innovation. Entrepreneurs and businesses around the world are taking approaches to help our communities become more environmentally sustainable. For change to take place at scale, each one of us needs to lessen our personal consumption and waste habits. All of us can help to reduce the supply of plastic pollution to our aquatic habitats.

Thank You
