Group member Sebin.k.b . Pole Mounted Substation

A Pole Mounted Sub-station is a large, free standing, outdoor electrical equipment that is mostly located in residential places. Its main purpose is to step-down the lethal 11kV to 415/240V for light, commercial and residential loads (consumers)

The 11kV line is connected to the Step-Down Transformer (11kV/415V) though a gang isolator and fuses. The lighting arrestors are installed on the H.T side to protect the Sub-Station from lightening strokes. The transformer steps down the 11kV to 415V, 3phase, 4-wire supply. The voltage between any two lines is 415V, and between any line and a phase is 240V. The Oil Circuit Breaker (O.C.B), installed on the L.T sideautomatically isolates the transformer from the consumers in case of any fault. The Pole Mounted Sub-stations are generally used for transformer capacity up to 200kVA .

Applications Private customers Aggriculture Wind farms Oil & water wells Rural electrification

PARTS OF POLE MOUNTED SUBSTATION

GANG OPERATED AIR BREAKER SWITCH Gang operated Switches or G.O Switches as they are commonly known are switching devices used in overhead power lines . They are called Gang Operated as they are operated in a Gang, all three switches together, using a single mechanism.  They are also called air-break switches as they use air as the breaking medium or G.O.D.(Gang operated Disconnector ) switch These switches do not have any load-breaking capacity.  They can only be operated when the transformer is on no-load and only the small magnetizing current flows through them.  A substation must be disconnected from the load it is feed and only then can these switches located on the incoming lines of the substation be disconnected

LIGHTING ARRESTOR A  lightning arrester  is a device used on electrical power systems and telecommunications  systems to protect the insulation and conductors of the system from the damaging effects of lightning. The typical lightning arrester has a high-voltage terminal and a ground terminal. When a lightning surge (or switching surge, which is very similar) travels along the power line to the arrester, the current from the surge is diverted through the arrestor, in most cases to earth.

HORN GAP FUSE We offer Dropout Fuse/Horn Gap Fuse/Fuse Element that are used in electric transmission lines and over heads and are made up of best grades of mild steel which is galvanized, contact made from Electrolytic copper or copper alloy . Features Low Contact resistance through the life of switch. Sturdy design of current carrying parts. Robust design and construction. Smooth and trouble free operation
