•established by the virtue of the DepEd Order which aims to cater for
the needs of the scientifically-inclined learners
•learners of this program are provided with opportunities through
enhanced science and technology-oriented curriculum that will
prepare them for higher education or work with strong focus on

DepEd Order No. 46, s. 2012 on Policy Guidelines on the Implementation
of The Special Curricular Programs, item 4, dated June 11, 2012
……, the SCPs take the place of TLE of the core curriculum. All
the other subjects of the core curriculum shall be adopted, including
the time allocation as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 31, s. 2012.
The add-ons to the core curriculum shall be the advance subjects of
the special programs. Likewise, the schools have the option to
further enrich the curriculum, provided that the requirements of the
core curriculum and the special curricular programs have been meet.

DepEd Order No. 21, s. 2019 on Policy Guidelines on the K to 12
Basic Education Program, item 69 p. 88… dated Aug. 22, 2019
In JHS, the SCPs will no longer take the place of TLE;
instead, the SCP will be treated as an additional subject. The
delivery of TLE shall be contextualized to the SCP being taken up
by the learners.
Therefore,
In the STE program, the learner’s TLE will focus more on
learning competencies that will be useful in the SCP subject.

Admission in the STE Program

Regional Memorandum No. 154, s. 2021 on Guidelines in Determining
Grade 7 students to enroll in STE and Regional Science High School
Programs for SY 2021-2022
The applicant must have meet/possessed the ff. criteria, to wit:
•grade of 85% or higher in Science, Math, and English
•grade of 83% or higher in the other subjects
•good moral character
•preferably in good health condition and fit to undergo a rigorous
academic program
35 students shall be accommodated each class

Retention & Transfer in the STE Program
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION REGION III 12
Retention
As per DO No. 55, s. 2010, the student should
•obtain a general average of 85% in Science, Mathematics, & English and
83% in the rest of the subjects
•have no grade lower than 80% in any grading period
Note: Failure to meet the grade requirements shall be a cause of transfer to the regular class.
Transfer (DO No. 55, s. 2010)
•student enrolled in the program is allowed to transfer laterally to
another school offering the program except in the 4
th
year level
•transfer from any science high school to this program is allowed
•transfer from a regular high school to this program shall not be allowed
in any curriculum year

Grading System in the STE Program

The STE program shall adhere to the existing DepEd policies and
guidelines on assessment of learning and grading
•DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015 on Policy Guidelines on Classroom
Assessment for the K to 12 BEC
Item number 5 stated that … special programs may further issue
supplementary guidelines in relation to the program’s specific assessment
concerns
•DepEd Order No. 31, s. 2020 on Interim Guidelines for
Assessment and Grading in Light ofthe BELCP

Teacher Selection in the STE Program

As per DO No. 55, s. 2010Enclosure No. 1, item D states that …
Teachers to be assigned to the program should have the
following qualifications:
•Honor graduates of CHED-recognized teacher education
institutions, preferably DOST scholars;
•Passed the PBET or LET; and
•Have undergone BSE-managed training to be able to teach
the revised curriculum offerings

Monitoring & Evaluation of the STE Program

•The school head shall serve as the chair of the screening committee.
He/ she can designate a focal person (science department head/OIC) for
the school-based implementation of the program
•The school shall ensure that provisions stated in the guidelines issued
by the RO and CO are followed
•The division science supervisor should provide appropriate technical
assistance to school heads and teachers through the conduct of INSET,
seminars, and workshops
•The science supervisor shall monitor quarterly the program, prepare
and submit a report to RO
•provide the appropriate technical assistance in tracking the Grade 10
completers
