Power Generation by Tidal Power Plant To study and understand how electrical power is generated using tidal energy (the periodic rise and fall of ocean water levels caused by gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun).
Theory A tidal power plant converts the kinetic and potential energy of sea tides into electrical energy . Tides occur due to the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun on the Earth’s oceans. There are two main tidal movements: High tide: Sea level rises. Low tide: Sea level falls. The difference in height between high and low tides is called the tidal range . This variation allows water to flow through turbines installed in a dam (barrage), generating electricity. The working principle is similar to hydroelectric power generation — but here, seawater movement acts as the driving force instead of river water.
