OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: Explain the different Personal Protective Equipment’s and give their uses Demonstrate the correct way on how to use each type of personal protective equipment Participate actively in the classroom discussion.

Personal protective equipment Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is a lifesaving material that is used at the workplace to protect the worker from injury, accident or even death. Hazards such as physical, electrical, mechanical, chemical, radiological and other workplace hazards like falls, trips, slips etc. are well avoided by the use of PPE.

Common Types of PPE Head Protection: Safety Helmets Eye Protection: Safety Glasses & Goggles Hearing Protection: Earplugs & Earmuffs Respiratory Protection: Dust Masks Hand Protection: Insulated Gloves Body Protection: Safety Vest Foot Protection: Safety Shoes and Boots & Anti-Static Footwear

Head Protection Safety helmets or hard hats are essential PPE designed to protect the head from injuries due to falling objects, impacts, and electrical hazards. They are crucial in industries like construction, manufacturing, and mining, where head injuries are a common risk.

Head Protection Safety helmets used in industrial application must comply with the EN397 standard. EN 397 is the European Standard that specifies physical and performance requirements (including testing) for industrial safety helmets.

Eye Protection: Safety Glasses: Protect against dust, flying particles, and minor chemical splashes. Often used in manufacturing, laboratories, and construction. Goggles: Offer more comprehensive protection from chemical splashes, dust, and flying debris. Essential in laboratories, woodworking, and metalworking.

Hearing Protection Earplugs: Inserted into the ear canal to reduce noise exposure. Used in environments with intermittent loud noises. Earmuffs: Cover the entire outer ear and provide protection from continuous or intermittent loud noises. Common in construction, manufacturing, and airports.

Respiratory Protection Dust Masks: Simple masks that filter out dust and other particulates. Used in construction, agriculture, and light manufacturing.

Hand Protection Insulated Gloves: Protect against electrical hazards. Essential for electricians and workers handling high-voltage equipment.

Body Protection High-visibility vests (safety vests) enhance worker safety by making them more noticeable, primarily in areas where visibility is crucial, such as large manufacturing floors, warehouses, or during maintenance activities.

Foot Protection Safety Shoes and Boots: Protect against foot injuries from falling objects, punctures, and electrical hazards. Features include steel or composite toes, puncture-resistant soles, and insulation. Anti-Static Footwear: Prevents the buildup of static electricity. Crucial in environments with sensitive electronic components.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential across industries, including electronics. Each type of PPE serves a specific purpose, from head-to-toe protection. By ensuring proper selection, use, and maintenance of PPE, employers can mitigate risks, prevent injuries, and promote a safe work environment. PPE is crucial for safeguarding workers' health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing overall workplace safety and productivity.

Quiz Direction: Write the letter of the correct answer 1. Which PPE is essential for preventing electrical shocks? A) Safety Glasses B) Insulated Gloves C) Hard Hat D) Earplugs 2. What type of PPE is used to protect the head from impacts and falling objects? A) Safety Glasses B) Insulated Gloves C) Hard Hat D) Respirator

3. Which PPE item is worn to protect the eyes from chemical splashes and flying debris? A) Respirator B) Safety Shoes C) Safety Glasses D) Earplugs 4. Which PPE is used to reduce noise exposure in loud environments? A) Safety Glasses B) Hard Hat C) Earmuffs D) Respirator

5. Which PPE is specifically designed to protect the feet from electrical hazards? A) Safety Shoes B) Insulated Gloves C) Safety Glasses D) Respirator

II. True or False: Write T if the answer is True and write F if the answer is False 1. Earmuffs provide better protection against intermittent loud noises compared to earplugs. 2. Insulated gloves are necessary when working on any type of electrical equipment. 3.Earplugs are sufficient for protecting your hearing in environments with continuous loud noise. 4. Dust masks can protect against fumes and vapors. 5. Respirators require PPE in environments where airborne particles or harmful gases are present.

ASSIGNMENT Answer the following questions: 1. What are the three types of PPE and their primary functions? 2. Why is it important to wear safety goggles in a lab? 3. How can wearing earplugs protect your hearing in a noisy environment? 4. What is the purpose of a hard hat in construction? 5. Describe a situation where you would need to wear gloves for protection
