TROPICAL RAINFOREST

Tropical rainforest A rainforest is an area of tall, mostly evergreen and high amount of rainfall. Rainforest are Earth’s oldest living ecosystem, with some surviving in their present form for at least 700 million years. They are incredibly diverse and complex, home to more then half of the world’s plant and animal species-even though they cover just 6% of earth’s surface. This makes rainforest astoundingly dense with flora and fauna; as 10-squre kilometer(4-squre-mile) patch can contain as many as 1,500 flowering plant, 750 species of trees, 400 species of birds and 150 species of butterflies.

Rainforest thrive on every continent except Antartica . The largest on the rainforest on Earth surround the Amazon River in South America and the Congo River in Africa. The tropical islands of Southeast Asia and parts of Australia support dense rainforest habitats. Even the cool evergreen forests of North America’s Pacific Northwest Europe are a type a rainforest. The tropical rainforest is a hot, moist biome where it rains all year long. It is known for its dense canopies of vegetation that form three different layers. The top layer or canopy contains giant trees that grow to heights of 75 m (about 250 ft) or more .

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION Tropical rainforests are found near the equator due to the amount of rainfall and the amount of sunshine these areas receive. Most tropical rainforests fall between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.

REQUIRED ENVIRONMENT Temperature. The rainforest biome remains warm all year and must stay frost-free. The average daily temperatures range from 20°C (68°F) to 25°C (77°F). Precipitation. Rainforests receive the most rain of all of the biomes in a year! A typical year sees 2,000 to 10,000 millimeters (79 to 394 inches) of rain per year.

The primary soil orders found in tropical rainforests are Oxisols and Ultisols , which are soils rich in iron and aluminum oxides (red color) but with low natural fertility. The majority of temperate rainforests have been felled, and currently, this biome type occupies less than 0.3% of the Earth's land surface. Climate, rainy and dry season with high temperatures keep the air warm and wet, with an average humidity of between 77% and 88%

FAUNA AND FLORA Located in tropical regions, rainforests posses a greater diversity of plant and animal life than any other type of ecosystem. as their name implies, precipitation is significant, leading to dense, verdant vegetation. Trees grow very tall as they compete for sunlight, and animals live in their canopy. Mosses, fungi, and algae often grow on the trees. This layer is rich in insects, such as bees, stick insects, ants, beetles, and butterflies, which serve as sources of food for a wide array of birds and reptiles. The fauna species encompass bats, monkeys, snakes, lizards, jaguars, frogs, and invertebrates. Orchids, Philodendrons, Ferns, Bromeliads, Kapok Trees, Banana Trees, Rubber Trees, Bam- boo, Trees, Cassava Trees, Avocado Trees
