DISCUSSION / POSSIBLE ACTION
FOR THE SA SPORTS MARATHON
ITEM # 6
MARCH 10, 2025

SUMMARY
San Antonio Sports requesting to use a route
through AH for the 2025 marathon on Sunday,
December 07,2025
Replaces the Rock n Roll Marathon
Only full marathon –all other related races held
elsewhere

SUMMARY
Would require closures of several city streets from
approx. 0730 to 1215 hrs.
Items necessary for race would be pre-staged
including barricades, hydration and portable
restrooms with coordination of location for least
impact
Intersections manned, residents may be able to pass
intermittently

BACKGROUND
Council has made two prior exceptions including the city
sponsored 5K held annually in April benefitting ACS and a
5K for children’s cancer research
Likely an annual event request unless organization added to
approved organizations

POLICY ANALYSIS
On July 12, 2012, City Council passed Ordinance 1932
amending Ordinance 1861 for special events
Specifically adding section 16-150
Ordinance prohibits organizations whose primary address is
not located within AH from holding such events unless
approved prior to amended ordinance
Specifically excludes parades, walks, runs or other organized
activities utilizing city ROW

COORDINATION
City Manager
Asst. City Manager
Police Chief
Community Development Director
SA Sports

FISCAL IMPACT
No fiscal impact to the city –all paid for by SA Sports
Includes police, waste collection, barricades etc.
