FOUR WEEKS INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AT NORTHERN RAILWAY ELECTRIC LOCO SHED SUMMER TRAINING REPORT 01

ABES INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SUBMITTED BY : TARANG MITTAL 02

CONTENT INTRODUCTION ESTABLISHMENT SYNTAX USED NO. OF SECTIONS MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENTS AT LOCOSHED ADVANTAGES N DISADVANTAGES WORKING OF ELECTRIC LOCO CONCLUSION 03

WHAT IS LOCO N LOCO SHED ? Loco is the engine of the locomotives. Loco Shed is the place where the maintenance of the locos have to be done. There are two types of loco sheds i.e. 1) Electric Loco Shed 2) Diesel Loco Shed 04

ESTABLISHMENT Electric loco shed was established in 1976 by Railway Electrification Organisation ( 8910 SQ. MTS.) It’s main purpose of maintenance of WAP1, WAP4, WAP5, WAP7 Engines. Present Loco Holding is 184 . 05

WHEEL AND AXLE ASSEMBELY WHEEL Wheel of a rake is a specifically made cylindrical portion having outer edge shape to fit in the rail track. It is made of Stainless Steel. 13

AXLE Axle is the mail long cylindrical bar on which wheels are fixed with the help of bearings. This is also made of stainless steel like wheels. Each Axle contains two wheels the brake cylinder are also attached to it and the braking discs are fixed on the axle. 14

BODY REPAIRING Body is basically the coach itself without the braking mechanisms and suspensions. 15

AIR BRAKE SYSTEM Air Brake System in this compressed air is used for operating the brake system. The locomotive compressor charges the feed pipe and the brake pipe throughout the length of the train. The feed pipe is connected to the auxiliary reservoirs and the brake pipe is connected to the brake cylinders through the distributor valve. Brake application takes place by dropping the pressure in the brake pipe. 19

CONCLUSION The training focused upon increasing our knowledge and interest in towards the production & maintenance of Railway Engines. Because it is more efficient and necessary needs to people in these days so its production at most efficient method with minimum cost and in proper sequence with less wastage. It was great experience. It increase my practical skills that’s the main thing which I learnt in the training sessions. 26
