Tulsiramji Gaikwad- Patil College of Engineering & Technology NAAC Accredited A+ Grade GAIKWAD-PATIL GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS An Autonomous Institute Department of Civil Engineering Presentation on “ PRELIMINARY WATER TREATMENT PROCESS“ * P resented By : Name of Students: Payal There Shweta Ramteke Guided by : Prof. Nayana Sangole

What is preliminary treatment process? NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade Preliminary treatment is the removal of coarse solids and other large materials often found in raw wastewater. Removal of these materials is necessary to enhance the operation and maintenance of subsequent treatment units. Preliminary treatment consists of following units Screening Grit Chamber Comminuters Floatation Units Skimming Tanks Flow measuring units Such as partial flume Pumps Pre-aeration Units

SCREENING NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade In screening process a large screens is used. 1. removal of debris. 2. mainly solid object. 3. large particles like plastic articles, plastic bottles, clothes, wooden material, sticks.

GRIT CHAMBER NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade A grit chamber is a long, narrow tank used in wastewater treatment to remove 1. large objects and coarse solids from water. 2. Grit settles more rapidly than organic materials. 3. They reduce formation of heavy deposits in pipe lines, channels and conduits. 4. They alsoreduce the frequency of digester cleaning.

COMMINUTERS NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade 1 . A comminutor may be used to grind and shred debris 2. That passes through the screens. 3. The shredded material is removed later by sedimentation or flotation processes.

FLOATATION UNITS NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade 1 . Flotation units are designed to carry out chemical-physical wastewater treatments. 2. The air dissolved into the system provides for solid / liquid separation.

SKIMMING TANKS NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade Installed just ahead of sedimentation tank. To remove the floating matter like oil, fat, grease, soap, waxes, fatty acids, fruit skins etc., Major sources are kitchen, motor garages, oil refineries, soap factories etc., If these are not removed they seriously affect the working of various treatment units.

FLOW MEASURING UNITS SUCH AS PARTIAL FLUME NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade It's a type of flow-measuring flume that's commonly used in wastewater treatment plant. To measure influent and effluent flows. Partial flumes are also used in other applications, such as measuring surface water, irrigation flow, and industrial discharges.

PUMPS NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade 1. Pump is a mechanical device used to transfer different fluids from one position to another. 2. It is a hydraulic device that lifts a fluid from a low to a high level and moves it from a low-pressure area to a high-pressure area.

PRE-AERATION UNITS NAAC Accredited A+ (3.32) Grade 1. The Pre-Aeration is done in the same basin, which is divided by a baffle. 2. The pre-aeration adds oxygen, helps freshen the wastewater, and mixes it to keep solids in suspention. 3. It also help micro-organisms that treat the wastewater grow.
