Introduction to Building Assemblies ARC 314: Professional Practice, Lesson 1

WHAT IS A BUILDING? Buildings are comprised of parts, assembled for the purpose of achieving aesthetic, sustainable, environmental, programmatic and structural purposes.

WHO DECIDES WHICH PARTS ARE IN THE BUILDING? THE ARCHITECT

WHAT DOES THE ARCHITECT NEED TO KNOW? What materials are available. How those materials perform. How those materials are assembled

Project Assignment Find a construction site that is near your current place of residence. Visit the site and introduce yourself as a student in architecture. Ask the superintendent if you can visit the site once each week to observe the process of construction. Take a picture of the project as it is currently constructed and write a 1 page narrative about the building.
