HAEMORRHAGE; Haemorrhage is the escape of blood from the cardiovascular system to the surface of the body or into the body tissues or cavities.

CAUSES OF HAEMORRHAGE 1. Trauma 2. Infection 3. Local irritants 4.allergy 5. Surgical (intraoperative/postoperative) 6. Abnormalities in Clotting factors 7. Systemic disease 8. Viral infection 9. Scurvy

HAEMORRHAGE INVESTIGATIONS: Patients can be assessed by Haematological investigations The test are termed the “coagulation profile “ 1.Clotting factors 2. Bleeding time 3. Prothrombin time 4. Activated partial thromboplastin 5.Factor assay

CLASSIFICATION OF HAEMORRHAGE Based on source of blood loss
Based on time of occurrence
Visualisation of blood loss
Volume of blood loss
Speed of blood loss
Percentage volume of blood loss
Clinical signs of haemorrhage

Complications of haemorrhage Shock
Airway obstruction
Hematoma → infection, wound dehiscence Anemia Aspiration
Nerve compression

Hypovolumic shock: There is severe hypovolaemia, endogenous mechanism fails leads to a state called hypovolaemic shock that leads to multi organ failure .
