1. WHAT IS A NARRATIVE TEXT Narrative text is a type of text that tells a chronological story in the past. It can be fiction or non-fiction, but it always involves characters, a setting and a plot.

2. SOCIAL FUNCTION OF NARRATIVE TEXT To amuse, entertain, teach a lesson or moral, explain something or make a comment Connect the reader with the text and characters and events that occur within the story.

3. TYPES OF NARRATIVE TEXT Fables : short narratives with a compulsory coda or lesson that feature animals as characters Legends : Narratives that most people believe to be true but cannot be verified Myths : explain a natural phenomenon or object or cultural practice usually featuring gods and legendary heroes Fairy tales : written for children that involve imaginary creatures usually have a happy ending. Novels : Fictional narratives of considerable length and complexity Folk tales : communal narratives steeped in tradition that teach a moral explain why something is the way it is Science fiction is a narrative text that often involves speculative technology, futuristic settings, and other imaginative elements.

4. GENERIC STRUCTURE ORIENTATION Where the reader is told who is in the narrative, what is happening, when id its happening, and where it is happening COMPLICATION Where something happens that triggers off a whole series of events, thus complicating the narratives. RESOLUTION Where the complication is resolved, bringing the sequence of events to an end. CONCLUSION The conclusion marks end up of the story, offering final thoughts or reflections.

5. LANGUAGE FEATURES OF NARRATIVES TEXT Using Past Tense Narrative texts often use pas tense because they are usually about events that have already happened in the past. Using Action Verb Mainly action verbs are used to describe what happens in the story. Using Temporal Conjunction Events are sequenced by means of connectors.

6. SAMPLE OF NARRATIVE TEXT (SCIENCE FICTION) Once upon a time , a girl named Zoe lived on a space station called Nova, which orbited a far-away planet. People had left Earth long ago and now lived among the stars on space stations. Zoe loved to explore every corner of Nova, her home in space. She dreamed of meeting beings from other worlds, even though she had never seen one. One day , while wandering in a quiet section of Nova, Zoe heard strange sounds coming from a closed-off area. Curiosity got the best of her, and she managed to open the door. Inside, she found a creature unlike any she had ever seen. It was small, with blue skin and big, sad eyes. Zoe could tell right away that creature was hurt and scared. Zoe remembered how her parents taught her to care for injured animals back when they lived on Earth. She brought water and food, and made a soft bed out of old clothes for the creature. She named him Blu because of his skin.

Anya had successfully made the quantum leap, transported to a distant star system. Anya's quantum leap marked a turning point for humanity. It was a testament to the power of human ingenuity and the boundless potential of scientific exploration. As she looked out at the alien landscape, she knew that her journey had only just begun. The universe was waiting to be discovered, and she was determined to be at the forefront of its exploration.
