Topic Name Disease of Jackfruit 2

My Introduce Rafiqul Islam ( Rifat ) IUBAT University of Bangladesh 3

Introduction Jackfruit is a common fruit in our country. Its scientific name is Artocarpus heterophyllus . The  jackfruit   also known as  jack tree ,  jakfruit , or sometimes simply  jack  or  jak. 4

Main Disease of the Jackfruit Rhizopus rot Gummosis disease Pink disease 5

1. Disease name : Rhizopus rot Pathogen name :( Rhizopus artocurpi ) Symptom At first, soft, watery, brown spots develop on the flowers and fruit. Subsequently, a powdery, fuzzy-looking mass of black spores and white fungal mycelia covers the jackfruit surface. 6

Continue The pathogen engulfs the young fruit, resulting in the characteristic black, rotten, shrunken, and sometimes mummified fruit remains. Fruit symptoms can appear on the tree or can develop on fruit that are in storage or transit 7

Causes Three species of plant-pathogenic fungi of the genus Rhizopus can cause this disease in the tropics: Rhizopus oryzae, Rhizopus artocarpi, and Rhizopus stolonifer . No jackfruit varieties are reported to have significant resistance to the disease . 8

Management Prune the tree to encourage good ventilation. Remove and destroy diseased fruit from trees and the ground. Clean up decaying organic debris around the tree. Control weeds around young trees. Keep ripe fruit from contact with the soil or decaying organic material . 9

Continue Ensure that water does not pond around the tree’s root zone. Do not pack fruit with symptoms. Can be spray Mancozeb fungicide 2.5g/L . 10

2. Disease name :Gummosis disease Symptom It is understood as a plant physiological  disease . 11

Continue Gummosis is the formation of patches of a gummy substance on the surface of certain plants, particularly fruit trees . This occurs when sap oozes from lesion or cankers as a reaction to outside stimuli such as adverse weather conditions, infections, insect problems, or mechanical damage. 12

Management First we have to sickling the infected place then use Bordeaux mixture on that place. Copper fungicide can be use also. 13

3. Disease Name :Pink disease Pathogen name :Corticium Salmonicolor Symptoms  It is widespread in tropical and subtropical areas. Disease appears as a pinkish powdery coating on the stem . 14

Continue Young woody branches of the affected trees lose their leaves & show die back symptoms . Pink encrustation is seen on the lower shaded side. Pink color represents profuse conidial production of fungus . 15

Management The affected branches should be pruned and cut ends should be pasted with Bordeaux paste or Copper Oxychloride paste. 16
