WORK POWER AND ENERGY PRESENTATION

Slide Content

Science – 8 RENA LAICA G. ESTEBAN, LPT SUBJECT TEACHER

OBJECTIVES Identify Work, Power and Energy Calculate Work and Power Actively participate in group activity

Activity: Using the picture, list all the things that you know about WORK, POWER and ENERGY. Work Power Energy __________ _________ _________

analysis: What are the words that you listed? Who do you think has the greatest power? Are work, energy and power the same?

WORK, POWER & ENERGY Abstraction:

WORK

WORK In Physics, work is defined as the product of the force applied to move an object and the displacement is the direction of that force. Mathematically written as 𝑾=𝑭(𝒅), Joule is the unit for work.

Work : Computing work Ex. Ana pulled a wheeled cart with horizontal force of 10 N on the side of the room 5 m away. Solution: 𝑾=𝑭(𝒅) 𝑾=𝟏𝟎 𝑵 𝒙 𝟓 𝒎 𝑾=𝟓𝟎 𝑱

Work: Computing work Ex. Ma’am Esteban carry his 15.1 kg son with force of 57 N and walks toward the bed 6 m away from her initial position. Solution: 𝑾=𝑭(𝒅) 𝑾=𝟓𝟕 𝑵 𝒙 𝟔 𝒎 𝑾=𝟑𝟒𝟐 𝑱

WORK It is also defined as the measure of how a force is capable of moving an object, or in causing a displacement. When to be said that there is work being done and no work is being done?

Work done? No work done? If the force is not causing you to move; does not displace you, this force does no work . Any force whose sole job is to support an object does no work.

POWER

POWER It is define as the physical quantity that describes how fast or slow work is being done. In Equation, or The SI unit for power is Watt or “W”.

POWER: Computing power Example 1: Mr. Salumbides done his 268 J of work within 67 s. What is the average power of does Mr. Salumbides doing his work?

POWER: Computing power Given: W = 268 J t = 67 s Solution:

POWER: Computing power Example 2: A construction worker raises a crate from the ground using force of 3, 345 N at the height of 1.52 m. If the process tool 22.4 s, what is was the average power the worker exerted?

POWER: Computing power Given: F = 3.345N d = 1.52 m t = 22.4 s Solution:

EXPLAIN THE RELATIOSHIP BETWEEN WORK AND POWER

APPLICATION: Group 1 A person pushing a shopping cart forward with 17 N of force. How much work does a person do pushing a cart down a 15 m long aisle? F = 234N d = 67m W = ?

Group 2 Mr. Bean carry his toy towards the bed and lay it there. Two men strongly pushes the Titanic Ship. Writing your name on the sand.

Group 3 F = 12N d = 13.5m t = 23s P = ? W = 456J t = 1 min. P = ? F = 130N d = 10m t = 2mins. P = ?

THANK YOU! 
