Welcome to Project Report on Smart Chessboard Project PRESENTED BY: Deepesh Meena Deependra Singh Tanwar Ghanshyam Sain SUBMITTED TO: Dr. Prabhat Kumar GUIDE BY: Dr. Priyanka Jain 21EAREE011 21EAREE010 21EAREE017
objective Smart Chess Board that control the chess pieces movement. It allows to play against the AI bridging the gap between the physical and digital chess playing experiences. Reducing Screen time.
features Play against chess bots physically. Practice for chess competition. Ability to play against online remote players Ability to play using voice commands
Stepper motor 4
Stepper motor Nema 17 Stepper Motor Rating: 12V 350mA Bi-polar 220 Steps per Revolution 1.8° per step Installed 2 of these Stepper motor for controlling the movement of the magnet in x-axis and y-axis. Connected to Stepper Motor Driver Carrier ( Pololu A4998) 5
Why we used Stepper Motor Ease of use. Well documented Cheap Easily Available Good Enough power Bi-polar Good accuracy Easy to Code the movement 6
Stepper motor Driver Chosen Pololu A4998 Driver Rating: 8-35 V DC 1-2 A 220 Steps per Revolution 1.8° per step The stepper motors used are bipolar, which means that they need a double H bridge circuit to power alternatively their coils, so A4998 was chosen. 2 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier ( Pololu A4998) connected for each stepper motors. 7
Why we chose A4998 Appropriate power supplied to motor Easier Coding Readily Available Good and easy documentation on pairing it with nema 17 motor. Cheap 8

10 X-Y table
X-y table The XY table performs the displacements of the electromagnetic trolley. The XY table is composed of two motorized linear slides, one for the X axis motion and one for the Y axis motion. The GT2 belts connected to motors for movement of magnet on trolley. Linear Slides for easy movement, the trolley containing Magnet. The stepper motor moves the magnet trolley

Electro magnet (Failed) Used a electromagnet first. But too low Magnetic Power than required. Changed the electromagnet to more powerful one. But lots of heat generated when electromagnet running. Separate power supply required for powering this bigger electromagnet. Require protective circuitry for protecting the Arduino when switching on and off the electromagnet 13
Permanent Magnet C hanged the electromagnet to permanent magnet. Advantage of permanent magnet is its higher magnetic strength. Available in smaller size. No heat generated, so no cooling required. No additional power supply required. Will be connected to a Servo linear Actuator . 14

16 Arduino Uno User-friendly for beginners Open-source hardware and software Large community support Affordable and accessible: Compact and lightweight Power options 7V to 12V
Project Schedule
Future enhancements Reduction of Weight Increase Efficiency so it can be Battery Operated. Use X-Y Belt system instead of screw movement system. 18
Conclusion It enhances the traditional chess experience, making it more interactive, convenient, and modern It enhances the practice experience by providing players with the ability to engage with AI-powered opponent. Improves the accessibility of the chess for handicapped player. Helps to reduce screen time with the ability to play physically. Easy and fun way to simulate mind . 19
