En Our Trustees

Mr. D.B. CHAND (Chairman)

Heis a leading young business man in the field of real estate. Mr. Chand believes in the modest application of social work.
in the field of health care and economic development. Mr. Chand nurtures strong belief in the fact that development of
the society does not just call for “social service” that defines the establishment of social institutions. It rather calls for
actions to be materialized in the present life of every individual to ensure a healthy life and secure future. He saw one of his
relatives succumb to this deadly disease. He saw the helplessness and desperation faced by the patient and his family
members due to unaffordable and expensive cancer treatment and the never ending pain and sacrifices that Cancer
demands. Hence, Global Vision was born with the aim to help needy cancer patients. Mr. Chand is instrumental in all
activities done by Global Vision. His motivation will definitely help us achieve our mission and vision.

En Why Cancer

+ Cancer is now one of the top causes of death in India, after heart attack, up from seventh position in 2000

* India has some of the world's highest incidences of cancer: Cervical, gall bladder, oral and pharynx, which are also the
most common

+ Annually, nearly 500,000 people die of cancer in India. The WHO said this number is expected to rise to 700,000 by 2015
+ Every year 9 lakh new cases are detected in India - 2400 per day and 100 cases per hour

+ 70 per cent lives are snuffed out in the first year in India, due to late detection.

+ 80 per cent patients consult doctors at a stage when recovery is rare

« 50 per cent of cancers are caused by lifestyle choices, obesity

+ With 700,000 deaths, 1.1 million new cases every year, 3.3 million patients at any given time, cancer has emerged as a

leading killer for the first time, snuffing out 70 % younger lives. Within the next decade, it will replace heart disease,
WHO forecasts

Curing cancer has proven difficult because its not just one disease," says Dr. Arvind Kumar, head of Institute of Robotic Surgery at Sir Ganga
Ram Hospital, Delhi. It's a complex group of 100-plus diseases that we call cancer.

Ignorance among the public, delayed diagnosis and lack of adequate medical facilities has given cancer the dubious distinction of
being a 'kiler disease’. However, the fact remains that if cancer is detected in its early stages, it can be treated and an individual can lead a
healthy life.

High treatment costs are one of the main reasons why cancer care is out of reach for millions of Indians. If detected eatly, treatment is
effective and cheaper. However if detected late, itis more expensive (can even lead to bankruptcy) and also reduces the chances of survival.
