RISK ASSESSMENT TOOLS FOR DIAGONISIS OF URBAN AREAS(RADIUS) ME07801 Anjana Kasula ME07805 Medhasmi Khatiwada ME07808 Neha Kakshyapati ME078014 Reena Suwal ME078016 Sami Dangol

INTRODUCTION OF RADIUS TOOL The United Nation General assembly designated the 1990s as the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction IDNDR “ to reduce the loss of lives, property damage and social and economical destruction caused by natural disaster. RADIUS initiative was undertaken as a part of International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR 1990-2000) by its secretariat. Radius Tool is a simple excel based training tool for damage assessment

Features of the tool: Qualitative method for seismic vulnerability assessment Based on visual inspection of building and do not require detail analysis High risk areas can be determined within short time period Less expensive and do not require prior knowledge

GOAL Help people understand their earthquake risk Raise public awareness Promote worldwide activities to reduce urban seismic risk Understand seismic vulnerability of cities Preparedness programs and mitigation measures for better management of future earthquake disaster.

OBJECTIVES OF THE RADIUS TOOL To develop earthquake damage scenario and action plan applicable to the world To decide priority for urban planning ,land use planning and building regulations To prepare an improvement plan for existing urban structures such as reinforcement (retrofitting) of vulnerable building and infrastructure, securing of open space and emergency roads. To prepare for emergency activities sch as life saving , fire frightening and emergency transportation. To understand the vulnerability of an area for preparing plans for disaster prevention.

OBJECTIVES OF OUR STUDY: To understand the vulnerability of an area for preparing plans for disaster prevention.
