INTRODUCTION Stem cells are ‘‘mother’’ cells that give rise to all other cells in the body. Th ey are not specialized cells; they have the ability of self-replication and differentiation according to the suitable signal Stem cells have unique characteristics, they can reproduce itself over and over again through asymmetric cell division.

The concept of stem cells was first theorized in the late 19th century by Theodor Boveri and Valentin Haecker . The first key properties of a stem cell were defined in the early 1960s when they discovered the blood-forming stem cell, the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC), through their work in mice. Later, in 1981, identified, isolated, and cultured embryonic stem cells from a mouse blastocyst and t he first human embryonic stem cells were isolated in 1998. history
