ANNOTATION
The reading remedial program anchored on Project REAL (Read Engage and Be an Active
Learner) is a targeted intervention designed to address the needs of struggling readers. This
initiative focuses on strengthening foundational literacy skills such as word recognition,
vocabulary development, fluency, and reading comprehension through structured,
differentiated, and consistent support.
A key strength of the program is its use of varied reading materials that cater to different
reading levels and interests. Materials include decodable texts, leveled storybooks,
informational texts, and culturally relevant selections, which help sustain learners'
engagement and support incremental reading development. These materials are carefully
selected to match the learners’ current abilities and gradually increase in complexity as their
skills improve.
The intervention employs multi-sensory strategies and scaffolded reading tasks that allow
learners to build confidence and competence at their own pace. Activities such as guided
reading sessions, paired reading, and vocabulary games help reinforce key skills in a
supportive environment.
To ensure effectiveness, the program includes a comprehensive monitoring plan. Regular
reading assessments (e.g., pre- and post-tests, running records, and oral reading fluency
checks) are conducted to track progress. Individual learner profiles are maintained to
document growth and identify areas that require further support. Progress reports are shared
with stakeholders—teachers, parents, and school heads—to encourage collaborative
reinforcement.
In conclusion, the reading remedial using Project REAL, supplemented with varied reading
resources and guided by a systematic monitoring plan, creates a responsive and evidence-
based approach to improving reading skills. It supports not only academic development but
also the learner’s confidence, motivation, and long-term success in literacy.
