1. Donors must be healthy. Being healthy involves eating correctly, practicing proper hygiene, and maintaining proper levels of vitamins and minerals. 2. Donors must be of age. All blood donors must be at least 17 years old, although certain states will allow 16-year-olds to donate blood if one of their parents gives consent. Check www.redcrossblood.org to see the requirements of individual states. 3. Donors must weigh a minimum amount. Blood donors must weigh at least 110 pounds before they can donate blood.
